Angry Missing Browser after 4.5beta install?

Please Login to Remove!

Searched and found a thread about IT policy but I don't believe that is my issue.

There is no browser icon, even with all unhidden (normally press 'b' shortcut, nothing).

The cingular crap browser is there (and works).

Any ideas? Is this just because it's beta?

(me: 8700c went from 4.2 to 4.5 using 4.3 Desktop Mgr)

go into options > host routing table > menu > register now, its likely you do not have the service books. you can also log into your BIS website and resend them

Browser icon still missing.

In options --> advanced --> Browser, the only option is 'cingular browser'.

In this beta, will there only be the branded browser? Are they the same?

Mine was gone for a while even when I did the register and I resent service books. The browser just eventually showed up a few hours later... Hope that helps

There are 3 things you can try:

- Sever battery pulls

- What you tried already: options > host routing table > menu > register now

- options > mobile network > menu > diagnostics test and wait several minutes to complete

After that if browser icon fails to show up - try another battery pull and send service books again.

If after all this afford no browser icon still, you have to ring your carrier and ask them to send you all the configurations for the bb.

You have to ring the support of your carrier. It happens quite a lot here in Italy, unfortunately when you ring up the carrier to explain the problem most of the agents don't even know what you're talking about as not so many people use the blackberry.

Anyway the carrier can send you all the services you need including the internet browser.

Still no browser, now about 3 days running 4.5. It didn't 'show up' and I'm not about to call the carrier to have them send me service books or whatever to my unreleased beta...

The only thing I noticed was that the TCP settings were missing so I entered those (APN: etc).

I would switch to Opera, but after installing it, getting some strange messages when downloading apps (the 97, COD, missing), but the same thing happens under the Cing Browser.

Wondering if it's better to wipe the system and then do a clean beta install? I did an install/restore...

Why? you dont need to tell them what version of firmware you have installed. You just have to tell them that you pull the battery and the services are gone, not the ones that you can send from the BIS web site but the other ones including bb browser. It's their job to assist you and they can send you the service with a click of mouse. You will just need to do a battery pull after that.

My little cousin installed 4.5 on my 8700 after he heard me talking about it (little beggar thinks he's a tech wiz, *sigh*) -- anyway, I called AT&T because my browser icon had vanished (Cingular browser was still there), and they eventually put me in touch with a RIM tech. He told me I was running 4.5 (imagine my surprise, I thought my cousin had just installed a new theme :P) -- and they were able to see I was running 4.5 remotely, ie I didn't tell them.

Anyway, the rep. was very helpful and spent over an hour trying to get me the right service books on 4.5 (I was missing the Blackberry Internet Browsing Service one), and eventually said that AT&T is probably limiting the version range of the service books -- something he said they can choose to do on BIS -- and he wasn't able to bypass the filter.

Eventually he gave up, and stepped me through downloading 4.2 and downgrading to it. Once in 4.2, the browser icon came back w/o problems.

After all the time spent, I figured I'd post my experience here for posterity. So, does anyone with an 8700 on AT&T have a working internet browser under 4.5? Guess I'm stuck with 4.2 for now -- and I'm going to keep my Blackberry out of Tyler's hands from now on!

Thank you for the post above. Some devices seem to be bypassing the filter and some are not. I am in the same situation as you.

Hopefully JB will have luck. Some users have found an empty host routing table which left nothing to register.

Has anyone experiencing this issue found or had an acceptable resolution, that did not involve rolling back to a 4.2 OS ?

I am on AT&T and my wife's 8700c is experiencing this issue.
