Default 3 Days Old and It's Broken !!!!

Please Login to Remove!

My 3 day old 8900 has packed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It started to go wrong 1 hr ago when the voice call command button stopped working. You may have seen my post ??

Then the phone itself went into some weird restart thing with the code "App Error 200 Restart" about 30 mins ago. The 8900 kept trying to restart but to no avail. Eventually I phoned my phone company here in the UK, Orange, and they have promised me a new 8900 delivery in the morning.

Orange have been really cool about it but it does make me question BB ??? Especially as this is my first BB that i've actually used !!!

3 things:-

1) Did you try a battery pull. 1st step to take if device is having problems? - BlackBerryFAQ

2) Did you install any 3rd party apps on your berry? If yes, then uninstall all of them and install them one by one. Check for the error after you install the app.

Tried the battery pull to no avail.

Can't uninstall anything or do a hard reset/soft reset as the only thing that appears on my screen is the message App Error 200 Reset.

Whilst I am a newbie I am aware of the pointless double thread antic. However this is not a double thread in my opinion. I first had trouble with the voice call command button so posted a thread. Then 1 hr later my whole device broke down. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for all the help though guys!!

I agree try wiping it that often solves the problem. Remember to select 3rd party apps if you installed any that might be causing the issue

Yep, it's usually caused by a 3rd party app or theme, but not always. Just go to the TMo site below, download and install the OS (you don't need Desktop Manager unless you need to manually restore a backup), then plug in the device and go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and run Loader.exe to reinstall the OS.

I would agree with updating the OS version. I've had my BB for a week now, within 3 days updated the OS, running perfectlty and remedied several small issues I had.

The only reason I didn't recommend a different OS than the official TMo one is that he may need to return the device if he still has problems. Having the official release on the device is better if you have to return it.

TMo official release is 4.6.1.114

I'm running 4.6.1.168

Although not perfect, OS version .152 is a huge improvement over prior versions -- especially in battery life. Definitely suggest you wipe the device and upgrade to the latest OS you can get.

Do nothing and return it, start fresh with a new one if there sending it t you! But, just so u know in the future, a hard reset usually does the trick!

Guys, just wanted to add to this conversation as last Saturday I spent the better part of 2 hours returning a Curve 8900 that was less than 24 hours old. I googled, read, and followed directions for about 3 hours before deciding to take it back. Nothing listed here or elsewhere worked. In fact, none of these could have worked as the usb link was dead. I couldn't even get the blackberry to connect to the PC... and I'm talking USB mount... not the desktop software.

My efforts included attempting to hard reboot, soft reboot numerous times, uninstall all from PC including USB drivers and desktop software and starting over. Nothing. It simply never enabled it's USB connection again meaning it was dead in the water. Bricked.

The first problem I had was when I tried to load Slacker Radio (over home Wi-Fi) via the blackberry mobile site. The app said it installed but I couldn't select it. The icon was there but it wouldn't start. When the phone first showed the error msg "app error 200" I was able to connect it to the PC. I went into the Desktop software and told it to remove the slacker radio app and it wouldn't even let me "uncheck" the box to remove it. I would uncheck it and it would recheck itself. As soon as I tried to remove and wipe the OS the phone bricked and I was never able to see it on the USB side again.

It was _thrilling_ to have my first ever Blackberry crash and burn in less than 24 hours. Luckily the T-Mobile store where I got mine had one left and hot swapped them for me.
