Angry 1XEV on my 7130e? Yea right!

Please Login to Remove!

I have tried to search but found nothing, i recently switched from a tmobile 8700g to a verizion 7130e mainly due to coverage. I am not happy about paying more but one big thing that swayed me even more for Verizon was EV-DO in my town. Well i switced and was told give it 48 hours for your data to work fully. So now its been about 2 weeks and I am yet to see anything other than 1X on my screen where it is supposed to say 1XEV. I called verizon customer care and guess what they say. Well you are supposed to have it in your area but dont worry if your phone isnt showing it....1X is the same thing. WTF!!! if that is the same thing then any lame phone is just as fast data wise as my prized 7130? I dont get it. So last week i go to a near by city the rep on the phone knew for a fact was 100% covered by EVDO...guess what...still no change on my phone. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong. According to everyone i have spoke with at Verizon i should see 1XEV on my phone and yet all i see is the 1X and no one knows why..except not to worry cause they are the same speed. Any help on getting my phone to switch over to the faster data network would be appreciated. Oh for what its worth my zip code is 81004...thats Pueblo, CO

Are other EvDO capable phones getting an EvDO signal in your area? If they are, and you're not, you should take your 7130e back to where you bought it.

Try calling *22899 from your BlackBerry to get a PRL update.

I am unsure if other phones get EVDO because i dont know anyone else with an EVDO capable phone. I just did the activation code again, and no changes so far.....any other ideas or should i just go into the verizon store and see what they have to say?

I just spent some time looking at the vzw site checking out their coverage in your area. From what I can tell there is no broadband access available for you. The map changes as you go north towards Denver but I think you're out of luck.

Ok, thats what i thought and had seen myself. but from what the rep told me on the phone the broadband coverage and the EVDO were two different things. Which didnt make sense to me at all, and he kept insisting that I would or should have EVDO in my area. But then again 1X is the same thing to him, so i dont know why i let him convince me....

I would be upset too as that is the only reason I recommend the 7130e to anyone. I guess you are lathered up rather than tethered up. Keep at it and let us know.

From the looks of the map I would say no. The only thing showing is the National Enhanced coverage - no broadband access.

See and thats what i told the rep, and he claimed that the broadband is something completely different.....so I guess i was lied to and a fool for believing it.

I'm having the same problem with my 7130e and I am in the coverage area of Los Angeles, CA. But first off this is a company issued phone, not sure if this has anything to do with it. I guess my question is, is there a certain plan so you can have access to EVDO or does it just come with the unlimited data plan (which I believe my company purchased for me)?

Guy in LA, James, dial *22899 and send it like a phone call. All of the 7130e we have here work well.

no way to fix it... unless your carrier kicks up coverage in your area.... which wont happen

I'm with Bell Mobility in Toronto, and older devices had to have a firmware upgrade to get EVDO capability. Additionally, handheld software and desktop had to be upgraded to v4.1

Hope that helps!

VZW here in South Carolina actually describes broadband as different from EV-DO, too. Technically I have broadband access, as does my wife, who uses a Treo. But only one small area in Greenville (4 hrs NW of where I am) has EV-DO. I vacationed in Charlotte recently and the EV-DO made things a little faster, but not enough to be impressive. I'm not salivating over EV-DO's coming to South Carolina any more as a result of that.

I am super disappointed with my 7130e, since I don't have EVDO on my phone. Also jealous that my co-workers with the 8700 with Edge technology on T-mobile have super fast data connection. I'd asked my company to get me this Blackberry because Verizon's phone quality works bests in my area. I think I should of have stuck with T-mobile and gotten an 8700 with Edge technology. =(

Where are you in LA James?

I have the Verizon 7130e with software version 4.1.0.268 and I have 1XEV all the time (only time i loose it is underground in the Metro).

You should talk to your IT guys, maybe they need to upgrade your OS (if you are running as a Power user (yikes) or an Admin (double yikes) you can do it yourself, but if you have a BES you will need to re-register your unit on the server). Get them to do a javaloader.exe -usbwipe and put the latest greatest OS from Verizon on the unit. Then do a *22899 and you should be good.

There is no reason, especially if you are in LA, that you should not get 1XEV at least some of the time (I travel from Pasadena to Southbay and never loose it for a second).

^^
Well I travel back and fourth from Downtown to Pasadena so there is definitely coverage in both areas.

And yes I do have admin right to the BES server. Will try this, once the Lotus Notes Administrator get the primary BES server backup.

Thanks for your help!
