I tried searching for it, but has anyone been having trouble with .314 and SMS? Specifically when I go to open whichever person/message is at the top of the list. I have trouble opening it, but can open anyone beneath it. I downgraded to the latest at&t release, no issues, upgraded back to .314, same issues. Very weird.
But, just to add, I didn't have the random restart issue at all. The issue with SMS was enough for me to downgrade given the necessity of SMS for work purposes. Other than that, .314 was the best OS yet.

Yes, you have to get the sysadmin to set up a BES activation for you. It will not do it automatically. It's not really that big of a deal for the sysadmin even though he may not want to be bothered with it. I just did this last week on my 8900 going from 4.6.1.250 to 5.0.0.314. I did a low-level wipe using BBSAK before loading the new OS and restoring everything. It took some effort but is worth it. Had to promise my sysadmin that I would not bug him for a reactivation anytime in the near future, though.

Did you wipe the device before installing .314? I have found that some weird behavior problems are eliminated if I just do a backup, wipe the BB, install the new OS, and then restore. SMS has been working great on my 8900 for about 10 days since I loaded .314. I realize that there are problems specific to a device model but this sure helps minimize the issues.

Meanwhile I would say, this is by far the update with the most bugs introduced from my personal view:
Improvements:
- battery life
old bugs present in previous releases:
- local search still does not work
- remote file access still does not work ( no upload possible)
- GPS somtimes requires a restart to find a fix
New bugs introduced in this version:
- remote search does not work (can only access one page of results)
- auto-more for messages does not work
- frequent restarts when using wifi, some restarts when using 2G only
- Calender bug which makes adding new entries a pain, see here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/beta...-calendar.html

Two new features I am REALLY enjoying:
1) Gapless playback in media player -- so you don't get that interruption between tracks if there was not a break in the music on the CD.
2) scrolling through pictures with the track ball (similar look to the iPhone swiping of pictures)

In similar fashion to the last few posts, my observations on a 4.6 to 5.0 upgrade (after wipe)...
Good
- like the new look overall
- like the black bootup screen over the white w/hourglass
- like the faster boot times
- most apps working
- auto time zone update (not tested)
Bad
- error messages on file access (file too large, insufficient rights) via Explore
- above also means 3rd party alarm apps, etc. cannot access sound files
- "Other" section of Profiles not retained between reboots
- frequent reboots if I use 2G, so I am running on 3G only (no reboots in 36 hours now)
Workarounds/comments
- file access can be worked around using BBFileScout
- profiles bug is very annoying but not critical
- 3G prevents reboots but shortens battery life
- QuickPull Pro didn't work until QP v3.6 beta, now works (yay!)
- like the overall concept behind the Profiles, makes it much easier to maintain and edit (if the Other section retained settings, that is).
- certain apps I have used for a long time with previous BB's still work but are not useable (i.e. CryptMagic) and haven't been updated in some time; had to switch to something more modern (DataVault).
Overall, good enough for me to run on a daily basis. Profiles losing settings is annoying but liveable and likely will be fixed soon, and 2G bug would be enough to cause me to revert back to an older OS if I was on AT&T (where I would not be able to run 3G only) but is fine on Rogers devices. As a side ancedote, because I have been running 2G&3G for the past year, I "know" where in my work building that it switches between the two; and now that I am running on 3G only with no 2G fallback, I am surprised that I do not lose signal whereas before it would have switched to 2G.

I've tried and tried getting the VVM on my Bold and I'm just failing, the above COD files I loaded onto the device using BBSAK, then when I try using the App Loader on DM and I browse to the alx file, it just continously says that it is not compatible. I used the zip file posted earlier.
Any help? Not having VVM is quickly becoming very annoying

Any thoughts on where the icon might be or what I may need to do to get it to show up? No VVM is getting annoying now.

Did you figure this one out? I have the same problem and can not get icon. Anyone else can help?

you need to delete all vendor related lines in that alx file from zip file. "_vendor 102" , etc.(open alx file in wordpad look for _vendor 102 in the file and delete them all) save it and then load it again.

@ Fico,
I deleted all the lines that relate to vendor in textpad, saved it and reloaded it and it still says the same thing...

OS 5.0.0.314 for 8520
Hi I downloaded the OS 5.0.0.314 for the BOLD 9000 and I was just wondering if I can use this same file for upgrading the 8520 OS as well or do I need to download a separate file specially for the 8520.

I am having the same issues on my 9000. I actually replaced my hardware and continue to have the same problems with very bad battery life. I'm getting less than 24 hours of battery. I'm ready to move back to v4 until these issues are resolved.

You are going to need the OS for the devise it goes on, this will not work for that BlackBerry.
