Hello,

I've recently received a 7100i blackberry and have been having a difficult time sending sms messages. My provider is Nextel and I understand they are a little lacking in this department; however, I am able to get to a screen to select where the message will go to, but cannot figure out how to proceed from there. I have a data plan with nextel and was able to send/receive sms messages from my last phone. Any help or directions would be very much appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, I used 'Compose MMS' when I had a 7100i, not SMS. Then I just needed to know the cell number I was sending it to.

my options are compose email, compose pin and place call. if i press the comma key (,) I am prompted to select a To: address... however this is where im stuck.

7100 doesnt do SMS you have to do MMS and its a pain and it doesnt work half the time. I can tell you this from a long time user of the 7100. Also if someone sends you a text you wont know who its from either

if you want to send MMS from the 7100i you will need to contact Nextel and add a MMS plan to your account. As already stated it flakey at best on Nextel.

I can't even find SMS on my 7100i. I have Compose Email & Compose PIN, but no SMS nor MMS. Anyone have any advice? I do not have a data plan and don't really need one but do recieve text messages once in a while. I really just got this BB to use as a Phone/PDA. I've been told different stories by Nextel folks in that some say if Nextel finds out you have a BB they will automatically put a data plan on your account, and others say it's not so. I give!

you can not sms on a 7100i and you can only send MMS with a data plan.
