The speed is much better, not that it was all that bad to begin with. I liked it better before you got the Google Ads working again. Also, I noticed that the WAP page doesnt work anymore.

Just FYI, for those not familiar with vBulletin or webdev technologies. In the last year or so, a hybrid integration of XML and JavaScript has become very popular - named AJAX. The vBulletin team added this into their scripts and thus was born vBulletin 3.5. The improvements you'll notice immediately are the speed at which you can make new posts, edit existing posts, etc. - all are 'in-place' visuals. I'm sure the new hardware will also play a key role in making everyone happy and all former complaints/issues with the site a memory of the past.
Anyhow, thank you, Tom, for spending the money, time and effort for making this a better place for us all.

New Layout
I love the updated server speed, but I am not shure I like the new layout though, may take some time to get used to. However, I have one question, when browsing from my BB 8700c using the Internet Browser, I now get something new at the bottom of each open thread. Is shows up between the last post and the quick reply box. Don't see it when using my PC. See the attached screen shot. Can you explain what it means and Why I get this?
Thanks For you Help.

I honestly haven't noticed a difference.
Having said that though, I was fine with the way the site was originally.

I notice the speed increase and it is welcomed. Thanks. Miss the Home button, and though this is not that important, since you asked for opinions, i wish the color scheme was different, its not vibrant enough, and an updated Logo would look nicer and go a long way as well. But to me having said all of that its just cosmetics, the contents is what I am after and speed of accessing it is what counts. Also miss seeing who else is reading the thread while I am here.

The more vibrant the colors, the more it will hurt your eyes. We want to encourage a long stay at bbforums so you can gather as much knowledge as possible.
Click the BBForums logo and thats your home button.
The logo is updated (notice the 8700r, vs. 7290?)
Thanks for the comments, super appreciated.

Eh, I'm on broadband, so I don't really notice if things are a little slower. I do notice when the site is down though.

on the old hardware/forum, making edits, approving various posts, deleting threads, starting new threads or replying to others' posts, etc. could all get rather bogged down and REALLY slow - now its much, MUCH faster.

I have noticed the difirence in opening threads and yes, posting got much quicker as well as editing. I like what I see so far. Great job and thanks.

Yes I did the Logo as a Home button and that i like a lot for some reason I used to use the home button a lot so it is nice to see it back. I really do not notice the change in the logo but that is OK, and I can appreciate what you are trying to say about the colors, however these colors do look too drab. Please do not misunderstand I am not knocking it as I said the forums is my nightly fix, I had to go to detox this morning when it was down.

I like the layout. They always say that less is more. Simple, yet efficient. The speed, like everyone elses opinion, is above par. Bravo. I would like to see a favorites button. Something that a user can put certain threads or "corners" in to enable quick access. I know that we can subscribe to a thread, but I think having a spot where we can quickly access a thread at any time would be an improvement. However, I would oppose if it were going to slow the server speed.

How difficult was the upgrade? I'm looking at doing a similar update on a vBulletin system. Any tips are welcome.

Thanks, I don't have many mods, but I do have a custom template. Fortunately my site is still at the beginning stage with only a few users and not heavily customized yet.

i personally went through it a few months back. as tom mentioned, look at your templates, add-ons, styles, hacks, etc. if you have any for vB 3.0.x, then be sure to go ahead and download the updated 3.5.x versions of those hacks, templates, styles, add-ons, etc. aside from that, life should be peachy. if you have a base installation and no add-ons (or the above mentioned extras), then you should be able to install and go without any issues.
my entire installation took about 30 minutes or so. this included updates to vBadvanced Portal, vBadvanced Gallery, vBadvanced Links Directory, and an upgrade of a style for version compatibility and width restrictions (fixed to fluid). i believe i added on one more template/product that was no longer compatible.
also, with vB 3.5.x, you have the ability to do product installations rather than having a lot of manual work to do, assuming they are available as such. the product installation system is WONDERFUL (saves a HELL of a lot of time and leaves little to no room for user error)!
