4.5 for 8830?
Please Login to Remove!
Is there any hope of 4.5 being released for the 8830 Verizon anytime in the future? I seem to remember it discussed here that it was supposed to have been released early this past year, yet still only 4.2.

I am very anxious to get a good working 4.5 on my 8830. I tried .77 but the ringtone issue was a problem for me and the fix wasn't working for me.
As an 8830 user I feel kinda left out in the cold. Though I guess we could always look at the Storm, but I have to say the 8830 is a near perfect device for me. Only wish (not even a need) is a camera.

Say, I got an email from Blackberry indicating that 4.5 is available, evidently there is a new web-based upgrade application that appears to allow you to upgrade any modern blackberry to OS 4.5. I have already got .77 running on my phone, and it tells me that my blackberry is up to date. Perhaps one of you that haven't upgraded your 8830 to the beta of 4.5 yet could try this link, and see if it lets you upgrade to 4.5?
I can't post urls, so you'll have to go into the site manually and find it. (sorry!)
1) go to na.blackberry.com
2) click on the "software" tab
3) in the software menu, click "Blackberry Device Software"
4) Click the "Upgrade Now" link

Anyone try updater that has VZW less than 4.5
Anyone with VZW try this? I am thinking of upgrading to 4.5.77 based on response from one poster, but would rather do the "official thing" because I am not a skilled hacker. I desperately need some of the tools in 4.5, but I am fearful or bricking up my 8830.

I installed 4.5.0.77 on my 8830 and 8330, didn't brick either phone (and I upgraded downgraded a few times). It's actually pretty simply just backup your stuff (just in case).

I got to .77 without an issue. Worked pretty well, except i was missing the stock ring tones and such. Never did figure a way to get that working again.

VZW user
I am a verizon wireless customer who had 4.2.0.196 prior to upgrading to 4.5.0.77. I did the upgrade the night before flying out to Taiwan to visit my family yesterday and the only few issues I have are that I still cannot watch streaming video from youtube (says i need an upgraded version of flash) and losing my default ringtones. I set my ringtones manually from my song library my phone does ring now, although I think in the holster it still does not... it only vibrates when I get a voicemail. I haven't tried the ringtone fix due to the fact I do not have my personal laptop with desktop manager on it, but may try the fix when I return home in two weeks. Anyone know of the fix for flash player upgrade? I know that the 8330 has the ability to watch youtube videos, and 4.5.0.77 for the 8830 should also be able to stream the same videos I assume since it is the same software version.

media player on 8830 and 8330
When I was at the verizon store, i used the 8330 and browsed to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and was able to play their streaming video directly off their site, which was why I figured I would be able to do the same with my 8830 with 4.5.0.77. Any ideas?

I was able to run Youtube on my 4.5 8830... but i think it was higher than .56 I can't be sure because I had to downgrade cause it was not very reliable in a beta.

Alltel has not released 4.5 so it will not allow you to upgrade.

The supposed answer has been that "Bell/Aliant etc doesn't support streaming video" which is BS. my 8830 didn't work with m.youtube.com but my 8330 does.

Welcome to the forums. You can NOT load a Tmobile OS onto your 8830. you can only load OS's specific to 8830 devices from any carrier. Tmobile does not carry 8830 devices. For example, you could load a Sprint, Altell, US Cellular OS for the 8830 on your Verizon 8830.
Regardless, you cannot unlock GPS by simply loading an OS on it. Everything has been tried and talked about on these forums regarding Verizon GPS. do a search and you will see literally thousands of posts relating to this very subject.
