Default Review: Dual sim card adapter

Please Login to Remove!

This test was performed on:
BB 8100 Pearl.
Platform: 2.3.0.85
App Ver: 4.2.1.108
Adapter: Magicsim Double Mode Dual Sim(15th Edition)
Carriers: Trigcom and Telenor

It costs 16$ and 12$ for shipping, delivery within 1 week.

When you recieve the package it comes in a plastic bag at the size of mother earth.. inside.. is a little plastic box at the size of a credit card.. he he

After som failing I figned out I had to disable PIN1 code (startup PIN for SIM card) in order to get it working.

When you have deactivated your PIN codes (on BOTH cards) you need to cut you sim card, use a nail sissor (atleast thats what I used and it worked, in the end..).

The box contains:
2x plastic sim card with holes for cutted sim cards.
2x Stickers, guessing they are for holding the cutted simcard in place at the plastic adapter.
2x metal cover, 1 slim and one a bit thicker.
2x transparent stickers to place at the simcard so you know where to cut.
1x Sim card adapter.
1x Manual

Place the transparrent stickers over the sim cards

(thanks to seller for image)

Chop chop both sim cards, remember to take off the transparrent stickers when your done.
As you see in the lower sim card, you actually have to cut over the chip, but no worries, well atleast it worried me a lot, untill i found that picture.. so I continued.. Just make sure you fit the sticker as the image shows, so you don't cut to much.
For me I had to cut off the whole black line telling me where to cut, before it would fit into the adapter.

When your done its time to place the sim cards in adapter, the adapter comes with a metal cover in the back, this can easilly be removed by sliding it to the side.

Place the sim cards and close with the correct metall case, the difference here, is one is thinner than the other, this is to get your sim card to fit into the phone. (acording to the manual) But I used both of them in the troubleshooting progress, and noticed no difference on this phone.

At first boot:
SIM card not identified.

Second boot: same thing.

Took booth cards out and tested them in those sim card adapters that came with the kit, both worked, disabled PIN security at the one card that didn't have it.
Hooked it back up, and everything worked like a charm.

I can now use two sim cards, (NOT simultanious tho, I'll have to either setup auto switch which can switch each xx minutte or hour) Or manually change it

At the main menu you'll get a option thats called "magic sim". This is where you swap which of the cards to use.

Initial testing shows its quite stable, switching between sims take aprox 20seconds.
One time it failed to connect to the network. But turning off wireless radio and on again initiated it.

Attached are some screenshoots from the menu

As usual, I take NO RESPONSIBILITY what so ever if you damage your sim card / phone using this. Or if it don't even work on your phone. Use at OWN risk

This review was written when I bought this over one month ago. Now I've tried it and have no issues else that sometimes i have to do a power off and on to get it to read one of the sim cards, but that might aswell be my own fault

Hope you like it!

Good information. People ask quite often about using dual sims.

Nice review, thanks. I'm using two cards in two mobiles... never thought of somthing like that. But it's a little scary to cut the sim out :o

Isn't there another way to handle this?

you can't use those adapters which don't require cutting, I havent tried them myself, but they for sure won't fit.

BBbuddy: Yes its scary, so don't do it unless you can get a new sim (and can afford a small price for it) if it goes bad.
However, I gave it a go, I had to cut over the actual chip, and believe it or not.. it works. (Note: be sure to cut like the sticker says, you don't want to cut off to much of the chip)
Now I have a storry to tell my grandchildren.. In say.. 40 years.. he he

20th edition is out and they claim
EW FUNCTION:
1)Two number in one card
2)Two number auto switch on line.
The auto switch time of two numbers can be set separately ,
SIM 1 from 1 minute to 999 minutes, SIM 2 from 1 minute to 999 minutes .
3) Initiate show number on screen function.
4) Language select
(English/Chinese/Pyccknn/French/Spanish/Arabic)
5) Freely switch number on line Without power on/off
6) The record of calling memory function.
7) Supports 2G and 3G card
8) The most highly applicability of the mobile
9) Use the Import America IC.
10) Quality control by Japan standard.

The question I have is has anyone tried this in a Curve, what I mean will it fit in the curve's sim tray??

Not much change from the 15th edition

I believe they should work on the curve, you get two back "covers" for with the adapter, one a bit thinner than the other, which can be used for smaller sim trays. I had no issues with using the biggest back cover

How did I not know about these things before! Not so sure about cutting up the sim but if it means not having to carry a bunch of phones about I'm going to have to give it a try

Impossible! Phones only have one receiver..!

http://www.dual-sim.eu/product_info.php/products_id/137 --> same, bit cheaper though. I've read that 20th version doesn't work as it's a analogue one and blackberry requires digital (or the other way around)

How do you deactivate the SIM code?

I have a Vodaphone Germany, TMO USA, and Orange Spain SIM card.

Thanks!

One more question, what OS are you using on your 8100?

I have 4.2.1.107 and after installing the Magicsim 20 the BB does not recognize the sim card. However, it works perfectly in my Motorola Razr.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
