I am new to Blackberry. My problem is with text messaging, or lack thereof.
My carrier is Southernlinc, and the rep says I cannot text message. The info on the device talks about SMS messaging. I would assume that is the same.

I have unlimited data plan. I can receive a text message, but cannot respond or send a new one.

There are few smaller carriers who do not allow SMS messaging, so your rep could be correct. You could be able to receive and not send, in that case.

An unlimited data plan normally does not include SMS/text messaging, I know that with TMo and ATT that is the case.

your rep is correct but you can MMS with the 7100i so use that instead you may have to add the feature
