Default Verizon 8130 trackball

Please Login to Remove!

Just picked my 8130 up yesterday and just love it. My only concern is that when you have to depress the ball you must push it in very far to make connection and causes fatigue. My 8830 wasn't like this. Anyone else having this problem or just mine?

Default Track Ball Loose

I am not having a problem with pushing, BUT I am having a problem with the losseness of the trackball. It is so loose that it doesn't always scroll well even with attempts at modifying the rate of scroll in the options. Is the ball typically very loose or do we both have defective track balls?

Default Verizon 8130 trackball

Mine isn't loose left to right, but it does go down about 1/8 before it makes contact to make a click.

Default New Vzw Pearl vs 8830

I have had the 8830 since into end July got the Pearl yesterday.

Trackball is definitely different-mine is not as smooth scrolling as the 8830. the Pearl trackball is slightly raised and mine feels like it isn't smooth-feels like it sticks slightly-not as smoothly responsive as 8830-and I changed the setting for the tball and don't see much change.

More importantly I travel to CA often, have the NA plan and Telenav on my 8830 includes Canada. The Pearl has VZW Navigator which does not include Canada and Telenav as of today is not available on the Pearl.

So while I like the Pearls size as of right now I would not have GPS service in Canada at all if I stay with it. Not worth the $325 I paid yesterday at this point.

Will probably end up with the Pearl when my every 2 is in May and by then Telenav would have Pearl functionality.

Default Trackball dissapointment

I am just not happy with the trackball on the 8130. It rolls fine until you have to depress the pearl. It just feels the ball has too much play and you almost have to use your nail on your finger to depress it. My 8830 is still better IMO. What do you think about it?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Mslevy as far as the trackball goes I agree with you. Its way different on the 8130 than on the 8830. The trackball is even different than the 8100 offered from tmobile. I'm hoping its just a matter of time before I am comfortable with it. Other than that the phone IMO is hands down better than the 8830.

I am coming from the 8830 and it's just going to take some time to get used to how small this thing is. I just love all the features compared to the 8830. I'm going to stick with it and I'm sure I will like it over time.

I was planning on creating a new thread, but this thread touches on the subject quite well.

My primary question is... will the trackball assemblies from the 8100/8300/8800 fit the 8130? I REALLY dislike the 8130's trackball!

i have used both the 8830 and now the 8130.

i agree that the track ball on my 8830 had a "nicer" overall feel.

however, the 8830 had 5 months of "break in" use on it.

i'll bet the 8130 feels just as nice in a couple months.

I am a new blackberry user and I find the trackball VERY easy to use. This could be the fact that my previous phone was a moto Q... Can't believe I used that piece of junk for a year and a half. I am a converted for good blackberry user now!

The Pearl from VZW varies widely, some of the early pearl, the ball will only travel slightly for the button to click, (which I hate, lack of feedback). the newer Pearl now have the firmer click when push the trackball. however none of the Pearl will feel as smooth as the 8830. the Pearl always feel a little sandy like sandpaper feeling, while 8830 is very smooth and glides perfectly. oh well, I have seen at least 30+ Pearls and all of them feels the same. and the most recently Pearl now suffers a none responsive trackball, where the ball moves, but the cursor move very little or doesn't move at all. All in all, the newer Verizon pearl suffers some major quality issues. and the blackberry reps are aware of the quality issues. and it seems like there is nothing they can do about it.

I had the same issue the first couple days, I got used to it. I felt like it was way to hard to depress because it's deeper than the 8830.

I will agree, the trackball on the 8130 is not as nice as the 8830. As a tech in the a Verizon store. I see a lot of blackberrys and there is a real difference. Maybe I could take a ball from a returned 8830 and but it in my pearl....heheheheh!!!!!!

I tried two, and the trackball is definitely loose. It seems it is just a feature of the 8130. I've had two (I first thought the trackball was broken)...
