I aggree. Remember when the Motorola RAZR first introduced? FRAUD FRAUD FRUAD claims. Not just with AT&T, but all carriers. Insurance is a nice deal to have, but look at it this way. The amount you pay per month PLUS the insurance discounted cost for a new device (yes, you'll still have to pay for one) will almost equal the amount you'll pay for a device anyway at lets say, an upgrade/renewal price.
Personally, I don't want insurance on my phone...I think insurance is just another way for them to make money. Take care of your phone, do whatever except lose it, smash it, or make it swim. You're still covered under RIM's 1 year limited warrenty. My experience with that (only with t-mob), they'll help troubleshoot the prob, if problem is not solved, they'll send you a new one with a box for you to send the old one in. I've done this twice.
