Default Assigning voice tags

Please Login to Remove!

I have looked for the 'how to do' on this one, but it always seems long winded so thought I'd ask you guys.

In the contacts/address book, how do you assign a voice 'tag' to a contact.

ie a spoken name for a contact that can be said through the bluetooth headset. How else can you ring someone without having to look them up in the address book.

I'm sure I've seen it when setting up contacts but thought I'd get round to doing it later, well laters here now that I have a headset.

Anyone know the answer please??

That's old school. No need to go through that. Just hit the button on your bt headset and say "Call Dude", it will call them. Also, you can say "Check Status" to get battery and connection strengths. Or just "check battery" and so on.

Thanks for the replies, I have tried the voice dialling through the headset but as the last poster said it doesn't ever recognise the name I say, I have an 'English' speaking voice and after 3 tries it doesn't get anywhere near the right name. Bit of a pain.

Anyone else got any clues on this one or what to do to resolve it.

Question

I don't know about anyone else, but my 8130 is really easy to screw up the voice calling.

Three times I have had to restore to a backup to get it back the way it was.

It started fine, so I knew it could work. Then I added some software, and all of a sudden it couldn't find a name. A reset did not help, neither did a battery pull. I restore to where it worked and that did work. The first time I restored I wiped first, but last time I just restored and it was enough.

I have no idea why it screws up, so I have many backups. I test the voice calling and then backup, so I have the most up to date stuff that actually works.

I would love to know what I do to make it so wonky

When voice activated dialing "goes screwy", next time just go to Options, Language, and change the language. Escape and save, then go back and switch the language back to what it was, escape and save again.

It will then rebuild the index from your contacts and it should work better then (until it eventually happens again). Better than restoring from backups, especially when not near your PC.

Thanks for the tip, that sounds so much better than what I was doing!

Exclamation Tags for Voice Dialling

An alternative voice dialling application for the Blackberry Bold is essential for bluetooth hands free driving. The current voice dialling program for this phone is, I am afraid, a disaster. It does not work.

I have had numerous mobile cell phones and XDA's with voice tag dialling and that works.

Indeed, the only voice dialling system which works with any certainty is where one chooses certain specific contacts and adds by recording to these a voice dial tag which can later be recalled via the bluetooth headset microphone when driving.

Is there ANY application out there for the Blackberry which will allow this?

Was anyone able to find a software to do the "tag for voice dialing" for the Blackberry? I really need this type of application.

I've never had trouble with it either. I suggest adjusting some of the settings and making sure that you're speaking the full name. It's very unlikely that you'll find an aftermarket app since it's a built-in feature. If it doesn't work out for you your best bet is probably a BT headset that has its own voice dialing.

I have not heard of another app that can be installed on a BlackBerry.

Check out the Bury Handsfree products, the voice tagging is very good, as is the Address Book sync from BlackBerry to BT device.
