Angry Device is auto Erasing SMS

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Sprint 8830, have had it for 4 months. I am having a recurrent issue: the FILE FREE will (without any recognizable pattern) drop to 0 Bytes and erase all SMS messages. Once I remove the battery and restart the device it will then boost back to the appropriate 3800000 bytes. So question 1. Why does this happen? and 2. Why do I have a 2 GB card in the device? please help, I've been getting rather frustrated recently.

You must have a lot of stuff installed on your BB if you only have 3.8 mb left after having done most of those things. By comparison, I have 17.5 mb left. As a rough rule of thumb, you probably want to make sure you have at least 10-12 mb free.

Bottom line -- delete some stuff that you rarely (if ever) use.

The 2 GB card is to store media files like music, videos, pics. It's not used for device memory.

How many third-party applications are you using? If you have done all the steps in the aforementioned articles then you must have a lot of third part apps or themes installed.

Epocrates takes 9MB minimum. But you are still really low....

How about Menu>Options>Status>menu>Database Sizes

Can you post those figures?

And I still can't figure out why it keeps dropping to zero bytes until I soft reset, but it keeps happening without pattern.

Default Same here

I have the same problem... My SMS randomly gets wiped too after my memory free drops to 0 for no reason... Has happened at least 3-4 times since I got the phone back in November. Removed the battery and restarted and the memory jumped back up again.

If your free memory after a pull is fine then you need to see what applications are running. Some third party applications can leak memory. Also, you need to ensure that you a properly closing programs and that you don't have them running in the background. To see what is running hit Menu>Menu>Switch Application. If you see more than the base five programs you have apps running in the background. Select the item and use Menu>End (Or Close) or Escape to exit the program. Never use the Red End Key as it just places the application in the background where it will continue to eat memory.

Good Luck!
