Default File viewer questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am new to the Blackberry world, starting with a Blackberry Curve. I have had many smart phones and a feature that I use constantly is viewing Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and PDF files that I have loaded from my laptop.
I have not been able to do this on my curve, when I was told I would be able to before purchasing.
I can view them when they are attached to an email no problem. I can also get the files onto the Curve using Media Manager.

I have also downloaded trial applications claiming to do this and they have been worthless.

What am I missing?

You are missing a third party application like eOffice.

So I have to spend $100 for a feature that is obviuosly already a part of the unit (attachements to emails view fine). Or go back to any of my old devices that does this easily. The Trials of 3rd party applications that I have tried, like eOffice, still did not provide a file browser that I could access onboard files. They just allowed me to munipulate files that were attachments. Some of them even saved my files on some server somewhere so I would have to have a connection to access.
All I want to do is view.

So, again, I have to spend $100 for something that my old units did automatically, and easily. And I am reading that eOffice does not do pdf's and files have to be converted anyway.

And this BB was supposed to be an upgrade. Can we say back 5 steps.

If you are not pleased with your BB and you are still in your trial period wit AT&T, they will likely take it back or exchange it for you. Personally I have found the BB to be a great device.
