Arrow Correct TCP/APN settings for AT&T in USA? (New York)

Hi I have read FAQ after FAQ and scoured various boards both here and over on P instack etc.. found nothing but conflicting info on this, so here goes...

WHAT settings do I need under Options->Advanced->TCP?

I have heard the following:

apn: proxy
user: <blank>
pass: <blank>

apn: isp.cingular
user: <blank>
pass: <blank>

apn: wap.cingular
user: [email address]
pass: CINGULAR1

apn: <blank>
user: <blank>
pass: <blank>


so..... I have tried pretty much all of these and discovered that no matter what, I can seem to browse the web, use google maps, BB messenger, email, etc etc no problem. So does this setting even do anything any more? I am on a BES (hosted w/ ExchangeMyMail) and also have a registered BIS account, and unlimited dataplan from AT&T. Please someone shine the light on me.

Yes I have already seen that page, but it says "Reports from contact with Cingular (now AT&T) Blackberry support are that due to an October 2007 change in the system settings, many users will no longer need to use the wap.cingular settings" which doesn't sound 100% convincing to me!

can anyone else confirm this please?

Remove them all and then try to use BBWeather.

results-

completely blank for everything: "invalid tunnel name" (FAIL)
user: isp.cingular / blank / blank : "Error: Open tunnel - failure" (FAIL)
user: proxy / blank / blank : "Error: Open tunnel - failure" (FAIL)
user: wap.cingular / blank / blank: SUCCESS! (no username/pwd needed)

thus I will stick with wap.cingular for now.
YMMV.

i have not been able to find any reason to why its different for different users, at some level I am sure it has to do with how long you have been a customer, what company (other than AT&T/Cingular) you were part of before that company was bought, etc.
