Default AIM on the Pearl through Verizon??

Please Login to Remove!

I haven't gotten my new pear yet but as a first time user I had a question regarding AOL IM. Is it available for the Pearl on the Verizon network? And if so, can you IM another AIM user on their pc? Or is it only for mobile to mobile?

I recommend you try (and eventually purchase) JiveTalk for your IM needs.
BeeJive :: JiveTalk mobile messenger - instant messaging to go

It's one of the best IM apps for the BlackBerry and quite inexpensive for what you're getting.

You can IM to a PC as well. It's not just mobile to mobile.

Verizon provides their mobile IM program that connects to aim, msn and yahoo i believe. The link to download it is on the opening page of the browser when you connect. Or you can download a 3rd Party app like jivetalk. With any of these programs you can IM anyone connected to the IM service, PC or mobile device is not a factor.

Doesn't the one that Verizon has through that initial page use SMS as opposed to others using your data connection?

This was identified as being the reason my phone kept dropping off of the verizon media servers... Everytime I signed off of this I couldn't recieve any media whatsoever...

I didn't know people were having issues with it, I thought people just didn't like it. I have only logged on once. I would probably go for jivetalk if i ever decide to get an IM client on my phone, but most of my IM contacts use SMS now too

Jivetalk, hands down. I have been using it since it was a beta and it is great. Definitely get the transferable license. I switch devices every couple weeks, so it is a lifesaver.

I'm confused as to why aim does not work with bb for verizon. On their site, they are clearly advertising verizon, and telling you that you can add aim mobile to your phone, yet when you try to, it only lists att, sprint and t-mobile, yet verizon is no where to be found.

I'm a current JiveTalk user as well, and highly recommend it. You can connect to (among others) AIM, GTalk, Yahoo & MSN Messenger. The cost for what it does is very low, and I think you'll find a lot of others who'd agree this is one of the "must haves" for any BB user.
