Question Question about deleting e-mail

Please Login to Remove!

I have a user that has a Blackberry 8830 and we use a BES and MS Exchange. She would like to be able to delete e-mail in Outlook and have it also be deleted on the BB, but if she deletes it on the BB, she doesn't want it to delete in Outlook. Is this possible? I haven't found anyway to do this so it might not be possible.

I know about that. But the only options for Delete On: are "Handheld only" (which it's currently set at), "Handheld & Desktop", or "Prompt." I don't believe any of those will allow you to delete the message in Outlook and have it automatically delete on the BB but when you delete it on the BB, it doesn't delete in Outlook.

That setting is for the handheld only. If you delete the message in Outlook, BES will still send the change to the device.

If you hard delete (shift + del) the message, that won't reconcile unless you have "Hard Deletes Reconciliation" set to true on the BES.

I just want to make sure I understand things right so I don't end up telling her the wrong thing. If e-mail is set to delete on Handheld Only, that will obviously just delete it on the BB and not Outlook. But if it's deleted in Outlook, that will still sync with the BB and delete it from the BB, correct? Or will it need to be reconciled manually?

that is correct.

If you have a BB, you can test it out for yourself first.

Also, she needs to leave the deleted messages in the "Deleted Items" folder in Outlook until the handheld reconciles. If the user deletes a message, then immediately cleans out the Deleted Items folder, the message won't delete on the handheld.
