Default moving users to a new BES

Please Login to Remove!

I need to replace an old server. So I build a new BES 4.1.3 and removed a couple users from the old one and add them to the new one. It worked fine. Now, how can I move 500 users from the old server to the new one? I don't have much down time, 5-6 hours.

Once moved users onto the new BES how to activate them? During test I did manually. Also, when I manually activated those two test handhelds I had to do security wipe because it won't continue due to different IT policy. How to avoid that? I just want users get registered without any other changes.

Thanks,

David

If you are moving users between BES on different databases you will have to do a wipe and Enterprise Activation. If both BES used the same database you don't have to do anything.

I suggest you do a knife edge cutover. Search in the admin sub-forum. This topic has been discussed numerous times.

Sounds like you're not using the same configuration database. Any particular reason for that?

Can you go into more detail about your environment?
What database are you using? MSDE or SQL?
Is the database on the same server as BES?

I guess I'm a little confused as to why you have a different database. Seems like you're making a lot more work for yourself.
If you keep the same configuration database, then you don't need to reactivate any of your users and you won't have any downtime at all.
Just follow RIM's procedure for a knife-edge cutover.

Thanks for your replies. As for the database you made a good point. Our BES was installed with local SQL Std. on the same server as Blackberry. With such installation can I use the same database on the new server? And how to do that?

Yes, you can (and should) use the existing SQL database.
The instructions for doing this are detailed in the installation documentation for BES.

Just read through and follow RIM's instructions for performing a knife-edge cutover.
