Default Can the Bold View and Edit Documents?

Please Login to Remove!

So, I saw the Vario IV and it looks really sweet and I'm hoping this phone will be available to T-Mobile USA. For work the 8320 is really sweet but for school where viewing office documents and PDFs are pretty common, the Black Berry seems a little weak.

Will the Bold be able to view Office files and PDFs without third party applications?

Yes. The 8320 can do it right now with OS 4.5 installed and Documents To Go installed.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

ANY BB going forward with OS 4.5 and higher can view, save, and edit doc, xls, and ppt files. Any BB 4.1 and higher can use e-office to do the same. (Program is not free)

Just wanted to post a quick follow-up question to this. If I have a BB 8300 (Curve), currently on OS 4.2.2.166, and I update the OS to be 4.5, will I be able to save and edit those files?

If so, will this blow my BES "enterprise activation" away- or can someone direct me to steps to take to update the OS? I'm hoping I can do this without wiping the device- am I dreaming?

if your able to activate via desktop manager you should be fine. if not all you will have to do is contact your IT department and request reactivation.

from a couple of sites that did preview on the Bold, stated only Word and PP could be edited, but not Excel. And its read and edit, not create which the upgrade version can do.

the bold software was not complete. Docs to Go premium allows creating, viewing, editing, saving, and emailing of attachments.

Actually, the updated version Docs To Go Standard will allow creating viewing, editing, saving and emailing of attachments. Creating isn't officially supported but saving a blank word, ppt and excel document on your device somewhere will allow you to create a new document. It all works on any device running OS 4.5.

See thats how others have had to do it on other platforms ;) . Sneaky but effective. Also it works, just by simple opening the blank file and editing it, then when finished save it as a new name, thus preserving your current blank file as a pseudo template.

I recently upgraded my vzn 8830 to 4.5.0.51 and installed DocsToGo. I wiped the phone before the new install. (I am a BIS user)

I also updated that on the Dataviz web site.

When I try to use Word to Go and open a doc, I get the following error message:

"The application WordToGo has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."

I have learned that this is a "split-pipe" problem from RIM's web site, but I can't find a cure. My firewall settings are ALL set to "allow".

How can I fix this?

(Btw I sent myself a blank word doc as an attachment and saved it on my media card)

I have to say I'm a bit miffed that the included Docs to Go (Bold) is so limited. I could accept a "Standard" version and a more expensive "Premium" version but when they block an absolutely basic feature like document creation, they have no right to call the version "Standard". It's really meant to be a trial version.

Regards,

Carl

As an alternative, there's a new version of QuickOffice eOffice and MasterDoc coming in about 2 weeks.
