My guess? they will grand-father the technology (but still use it) and put new users only on GSM 3G. Older customers will have to upgrade to a GSM phone within x number of years (guessing 5 years?)

But that's only a guess...time will tell if I was right

Thay is exactly what should happen. Just like Bell and rogers did with analog to digital, and then Roger TDMA to GSM.
