Default Rogers Store Rep says.. Bold not unlockable..

Please Login to Remove!

So I am visiting friends in Calgary and thought.. Hmm.. let's go take a look at the Bold to TRY and hold me over until the AT&T release. Sure enough... have a few in stock. Was quoted a $699 No Contract price.

Sooooo.. Just for giggles... I ask... I live in the states.. will Rogers unlock it so I can take it south. Know it all rep says... Oh the Bold is not unlockable. Our firmware won't allow that. You can SIM unlock it and the calls will go through, but nothing else. And Rogers won't do it. But for $100, I can do it for you.

I tell the bozo "Uhhh.. Horizon Wireless is selling un-lock codes for the Bold. And it is no where close to $100" No possible he says.... That can only be for phone calls.

So I tell him thanks but no thanks and start to leave... Wait.. don't you want one? I just laffed at him.. No.. I live in the states.. You just told me it won't work there. I'll wait on AT&T. You talked yourself out of that sale.

Has anyone else had a Rogers rep tell them the Bold can't be unlocked?

Wow... That rep needs to be given his last paycheck and sent on his way. That's ridiculous...

The bold can be unlocked.
The rep was either just stupid, or protecting his revenue stream.

Didn't even think of that. He won't get a commission if you would have bought it off contract. So he fed you that load of BS to still get a "commission". Like I said, last paycheck should be in order for something like that IMO.

even selling it @ $699.99 is a good margin
I think he wanted to sell you the UL @ $100.00 more, because then that's the whole package. because once you said "i can get it @ X for a lot less" then it became "oh but you can only UL for phone/sms useage"

I'd have just tried a different rogers store personally.

hahahaahahah, that is the funniest thing i have read all week. Bold can be unlocked 100000000% . Not just a sim unlock, but for data as well. No problems at all what so ever. And not for $100.00 but for $10.00. Some people are stupid. I wish all cellphone shops had people like EZ working as reps.

that rep is obviously a bone head.

i feel bad for the helpless souls that have fallen victim to his "exclusive, $100 unlocking ability"

There's always a grain of truth to the lie. I do recall hearing that Rogers will no longer be providing the unlock codes to their phones even to customers with current accounts. Sounds like this guy was trying to pocket a quick c-note though. He was probably going to call Horizon Wireless for the code and turn around and sell it to you for $100! :D

What hidden features become UNLOCKED on the BOLD? Besides the ability to use non-Rogers SIM cards, are there any other benefits?

lol... Yeah... I figured Horizon would get a laugh outta that. If the new rumors are true that AT&T won't have the Bold on the 12th, I'll be back in Toronto on Sunday the 14th. I'll just have to fire off $10 to Horizon and unlock one while I am up there. lol

Default Just bought one..

Just bought a bold in Vancouver Friday and had a very nice sales rep gal. $649 no contract so I think that dude was trying to pocket an extra $50 on top of the stupid offer of $100 to unlock it.

By the way, Friday night went through Horizon and had the code Saturday morning by 10am. Fully unlocked for $10. Bold works like a dream. Emails, sms, internet...everything. I had even contacted Adam at GSMPhoneSource and even though he advertises on his site that he doesn't do it over the weekend, he had told me he would do on Saturday for me if Horizon couldn't. He is awesome as well.

I would highly recommend either Horizon or GSMPhoneSource.

Cheers

A local store in NYC has them in stock. Wireless Warehouse on 54th Street and Lexington Avenue. Price is $1200 but the best thing is that they have them in stock, ready to go and they are brand new. They have over 40 units in stock. All unlocked and ready to go. Dial +1.212.583.9100 and Ask for Ben or BJ. All the very best. I got one and got treated like a King at the store. These guys are the best. They had a line of people just buying up the Bold's. They helped me transfer all my data and sync all my email accounts.

I bought mine from Best Buy (Rogers) in Toronto on Aug 23rd and got it unlocked from Adam - GSM phone source, the very same day.

That mucho bolds in last 3 weeks. Where does a rep get off just blurtting out garbage info... Someone should send him our business card... lol
