T-Mob 8320, edge connectivity issue in Madison WI on firmware 4.5
Please Login to Remove!
I've been going back and forth between T-Mobile and Blackberry support regarding EDGE support on firmware version 4.5. Whenever I roam through town, it switches to a roaming partner Einstein PCS, and only shows the lowercase edge or gprs letters. Just wanted to let all know they told me they're aware of the problem, and there's no fix currently. Does anyone else in the area have the same problem?

Yep, I've got the same problem on my 8320 AND my wife's 8100 in Madison on Einstein. We are both running the 4.5.0.81 OS. Did you try uninstalling the Asia version and installing the T-mobile version? (I have not yet) Can you tell me more of what RIM said.. is there any use removing and reinstalling the t-mob version of the OS? If you didn't see t-mob released 4.5.0.81 for the curve but not my wife's pearl. So ideally I can find a real fix so they will both work.

That's most likely not an OS issue. It's probably an EinsteinPCS issue.

I live in San Diego and I have the same problem, in my house I have gprs or GPRS and later if I move (driving) like 1 or 2 miles it switches to EDGE.
is not the OS.

GPRS vs. EDGE is due to the tower itself. Not all towers have been upgraded from GPRS to EDGE. If it stays on gprs or edge, that means there is no connection to the RIM data system.
I remember this happening with Unicel in the Northwest when the bill didn't get paid for roaming agreements. Not sure what is going on with Einstein PCS.

Same problem with 4.5, Einstein, and T-Mobile
Same problem on Curve 8320 with official T-Mobile 4.5.0.81.
Problem only occurs while on Einstein in Madison, WI, i.e., data and email work fine the moment I am on a T-Mobile network in other cities.
Also, data and email worked fine on Einstein before the upgrade, and again after I downgraded to old OS. I.e., seems to be some interaction between Einstein and the new OS.

Strange. However, since Einstein PCS doesn't support BlackBerry I don't know that there is much that can be done. Best thing to do is report it to TMobile.

Has anyone gotten a resolution to this problem? I haven't tried to upgrade again, but I'm wondering if the problem would be the same with the new 8900. If the 8900 doesn't have the same problem I'm going to make a buy.
I did try the official t-mobile version when it came out but I had no luck.

OK I have an update on this issue.
1. The issue was not caused by the 4.5 update. It was just a timing coincidence. I spoke to one of the higher ups at Einstein and they said they currently have NO data on their network as they have taken down the EDGE network as they work on upgrading to 3G or possibly 4G. (This conversation was about 2 months ago).
2. I was in Madison and Janesville today FEB 25th, and EDGE was working and I had full data connectivity on my T-Mobile BB running 4.5xx.
That being said they must have reinstated the EDGE network while they figure out what they are going to do with the upgrade. Now, if you are NOT in Madison, and still having trouble while roaming on einstein you can call Einstein Customer Care at 800-745-1818 and ask them what the status on the EDGE network is in the city you are in. This could include cities like LaCrosse, Green Bay etc.
