Sorry this is kind of long but please bear with me.

Like the title says, I just swapped my Storm 9530 for a Curve 8330. I'm new to the BB thing, having moved up from a VX8300 flip phone. I like the majority of the features the BB has to offer, but the storm was just too much. The touch screen was more of a PITA to use than it was worth, battery life sucked, and the OS was full of bugs. It left me stranded and unable to make a call three times because of an OS error. I need a reliable phone, and this Curve seems to be working out better. Not to take anything away from the Storm, I just think it wasn't really suited for me.

I have a couple of questions about this new Curve. I noticed that the browser is alot different than it was on the storm. I think it is because it isn't full HTML like the storm was. It said something about java on a page I visited, and when I tried to enable it told me that my device was not capable of it or something. If it isn't, that's ok, I just would like to know the limitations of the phone.

I noticed that when I load pages I have to scroll down through like a mile of links and other stuff before I actually get to what I requested. Is this normal? What can I do to speed up the process if I have to scroll down so far every time?

I also would like to know if it is possible to get a live weather loop on here. I have been able to get a pic of a still radar image, but nothing actually moves. Is this related to the HTML issue I mentioned above?

And finally, is it possible for me to get the little weatherbug icon that has the current temp on this phone like I had on the storm?

Hi,

Weatherbug is available for the 8330. Since you are with Verizon, you should be able to download it from Verizon's mobile home page: mobile.vzwapp.com

You will see the Weatherbug icon on the start page.

To scroll pages you can use:

T - Top
B - Bottom
Space - Page down
Shift + Space - Page Up.

Hope this helps out a little bit.

This is the site I use for an animated weather map for my VZ 8330 BB:
Nexrad Mixed Composite Radar Map : Weather Underground

I'm in Chicago so it would probably easier to go to tihs site on your PC first, and then select your location. Then click on "animate" the map. Then email yourself the link, and then bookmark it in your BB.

Glad you're liking the Curve better. I find the Blackberry Browser good for about 95% of my surfing with the following settings:

Internet Browser Set-Up for JavaScript: In browser; Menu button; Options; Browser Configuration; Emulation Mode: Microsoft IE (unless you need WAP support in which case select OpenWave WAP); Check Support HTML Tables; Check Support JavaScript; Check Allow JavaScript popups; Menu; Save Options; General Properties; Check Enable JavaScript Location support; Menu button; Save Options.

For the other 5% of the time when web pages don't render correctly, I use Opera Mini (free OTA download at operamini.com -- use Menu button to Accept the license agreement).

Some additional handy keyboard shortcuts for the Blackberry browser include:
h – Home page
k – Bookmarks
a – Add a bookmark
l – View address of a link
j – Go to Java Script? (goes to radar on Weather Underground)
p – View address of current web site
f – Find a word, then v for next instance
i – Recent website history
n – Next page in history
DEL – Previous page in history
u – Toggle the title banner on/off
x – Thumbnail view of web site (any key to return)
o – Browser options
ALT+SPACE – Scroll up a page
u – Toggle between full-screen and normal modes
d – move browser to background
g – Go To dialogue box
r – Refresh page
t – Top

Phone Short-Cuts:

Hold down call button for address book short-cut.

Hold down any letter key for speed-dial (26 total) set-up by selecting Add speed dial while next to the desired number
Last Phone Number manually typed in: Space – Enter
Move to top phone number input field: Space or enter number
ALT-Escape to switch to other applications
Call waiting: Press Send to alternate between calls.
3-way calling: Press Send; dial 3’rd party 10-digit phone number; Press send after they answer.
Caller ID blocking per call: *67 before dialing the number
Verizon Customer Service / Tech Support: *611
Voice Mail set-up: *86

As for the weather application. Accuweather.com has really good animated radar that looks great on the curve. Set your location on the website, go to Radar and then under the Radar pic there will be an "animate" link. I have then set it as my Browser homepage, so when I want to see radar I use the Browser shortcut "b" key and it opens immediately. I also use Weatherbug Direct, it works great and is highly configurable. WeatherBug Direct for BlackBerry live local weather plus live temperature and local forecasts direct to your BlackBerry

For shortcuts to work you have to have "dial from homescreen" disabled. This is found in the phone app (green call button), menu/options.

I traded my Storm for the Curve too. The Storm had to many problems. I have the 8330 and I love it. No ramdom shutdowns or lagging between screens.

I'm seeing a lot of switchers. I have 2 storms. Couldn't deal with the hardware and software issues. Had a curve for ATT a while back, now got a Verizon curve. Only thing I don't like is for some reason the speaker on my ATT curve was MUCH louder than my Verizon curve.

I have a Verizon 8830 WE that has browser problems.
All though I think I've narrowed it to having javascript enabled or not.
What happens is when JS is enabled, I get one page to render then I get this error:"A problem occurred while trying to render the page"
Then if I close the browser, I sometimes get this error:
"Uncaught exception : permission denied"
If I disable JS then it seems everything works fine.
Anyone have any ideas?

I've had my Curve for a day now and have been constantly playing with it, have it just about the way I want it. For what I do, it is 200% better than the Storm.
