Angry Installing BES 4.1 SP6 MR2 for Exchange. Lost all services

Please Login to Remove!

Hello

maybe its just me but here is what happend when trying to install MR2 for Exchange

I have BES 4.1 SP6 and wanted to install this latest MR2 patch.

Double clicked on bessx416mr2.mps. Setup was going well until it prompted me for Blackberry Enterprise Server.msi. Surprised by this prompt i gave it path to where my setup files were(i;m logged in as besadmin) but to no avail. it would take it. I ended up canceling it. Setup rolled back and I clicked finish. To my shock when i went to services to start BES again the ONLY service listed is Blackberry Synchronization Service. What the hell happened to the rest of services? How can they simply disappear? I;m stuck now..

Is there a blackberry setup log file that i can see afterwards. Can;t seem to find it

It asked me for my original setup files (4.1.5) not the bes 4.1.6 files.

Rerun setup after you find the right files and it should work.

If not you can always reinstall 4.1.6 with a backup copy of the database.

HOLY CRAP! I'm planning on applying MR2 this evening due to some hung thread issues. I don't have the original 4.1 installation from waaay back when, but I do have the full 4.1.6 install files.

Sure as hell hope my BES doesn't get erased!

very strange indeed. it look like installer removes the services first and then asks/looks for msi installer. So if you can't find/supply it to the setup you are fooked. I re-run SP6 from scratch again and then run mr2 and this time it went fine. Also funny thing is if you are watching bes services they will be changed for Automatic to Manual startup hmmmm.

I'm doing the MR2 install on Saturday, I'll let you know if I run into anything similar.

I delayed my MR2 install until next week. Please post your results.

when installing an MR, always have the install files of the laast service pack local, that's all.. no need for the original full setup files , just the service pack will do fine.

(full install/service pack only differ in minor ways it checks the existing installation)

Erasing the services , no biggie, just download the last service pack you installed, rerun the MR, and point to the SP files.

I ran the update on 2 separate BES 4.1.6 servers that point to the same database. Just stopped all services on both boxes, then installed the update 1 at a time on each BES.

For 1 server it prompted for the .msi, so I just pointed it to the SP6 files I had locally and it worked fine. For the other server it didn't ask for the files but then asked to reboot at the end. So overall no issues, the only other thing you will need is the password for BES service account. It prompts for this before beginning the installation. As a few others have said have your latest service pack files available during the installation as well.

No need to worry about the database backup with a maintenance release, as it makes no changes to the database.

Installed MR2 last night. Has the Full 4.1.6 install files on BES. Seems as though MR2 didnt like it and wanted just SP6. Copied them over and then the install went through. Didn't even prompt me to point to the MSI.

Perhaps RIM should DOCUMENT that you need to have the most recent SP installaion files on the server when updating a MR.

Installed SP6 usinf the updater yesterday. Everything went OK.

Then I tried to install MR2. Early in the install, it threw a message about not being able to delete a service, to reboot for the install to continue. I rebooted, nothing restarted and I found out that it had removed BES. I had to download a full 4.1.6 and re-install BES. Haven't tried MR2 again.
