Question Unlocking the GSM part of my 8830

Please Login to Remove!

Can I get the GSM part of my 8830 worldphone unlocked.
it's from telus...and the unit is locked with telus's own Sim card....
Im just wondering about the GSM 900 band and if it can be changed,
Also ...does a sim work on GPRS? the 8830 does GPRS 1800

Thanks,

Thanks,
thedukes,
Telus is not using GSM. It is CDMA.
Telus does not use GSM SIM cards .. you cannot unlock it. Sorry. :(

Oh.. sorry for misundertanding..
I bet you could do it. I heard somebody did it.. but I am not sure....
But I think... the GSM part is "unlocked" already .. since Telus does not serve GSM .

Call Telus and see if they will give you an unlock code. The 8830 is CDMA in North America and GSM elsewhere.

You cannot change the frequency bands.

Hey,

if you plan to use it in North America you will have to use it with Telus, The GSM function will only work outside of North America. The Phone automatically checks for what band widths are available and if any telus bandwidths are available it shuts down the GSM part of the phone. Sorry about that

See if Telus can give you an unlock code. If not, go to unlock-now.com and see if they can unlock your 8830.

Call Telus first. If they won't do it, then you can get a unlocking service (check on ebay) to do it for you...usually it doesn't even require that you send the device in.
