8900 vs. 9000
Please Login to Remove!
What would you get?
The new 8900, light, sexy, better camera, UMA calling, no 3G, etc
or
The 9000, Bigger, heavier, 3G, lesser camera, larger screen and keyboard.
I am a business and personal user so I need the functional aspects of both but need to be able to type

I love the size of the 8900, but for me the features of 3G outweigh the slightly better form factor. Simultaneous voice and data is big for me. I know that speed-wise the 8900 is on par with the Bold, even considering EDGE vs. 3G. Now, in six months, when the rev. 2 8900 comes out with 3G I'm all over it!

Thanks for the reply,
Yeah I like the 3G but I have to say that EDGE on the 8900 is pretty damn fast, for me I am using it for a lot of email and I like to surf as well and I am finding it a bit small.
Will RIM keep the 9000 in the lineup and evolve it or was it a one time deal?

I believe the Bold is here to stay. It's the successor to the 8800/8820 family of devices, emphasis on professional/corporate user. The Curve lineup was always aimed at home users and non-corporate types, including media-centric features like a camera, music player, etc. The line between the two model lines has been blurred recently, but I doubt either will go away or evolve into something in the middle.

So I assume the Storm is the "direct" competition or at least RIM's entry into the touch screen market.
I personally hated the typing interface on the Storm

Me too. I tried one in a Verizon store a couple of times but figured such a short trial wasn't really fair. I bought a used/unlocked Verizon unit to run on AT&T. Turns out I hated the virtual keyboard even MORE than I previously thought. Sold it immediately and took a $25 loss. Cheap lesson I figure.
I think RIM got caught up in the touch screen craze, started by the iPhone, and whipped into a major trend by all the other manufacturers playing the "kill the iPhone" game. Silly, really. Interesting concept, but IMHO the touch screen virtual keyboard, especially on the Storm, gets an "Epic FAIL" rating for execution. But that's just me. I'm the guy that bet on Sony's Beta tape format, said 8-track tapes were here to stay, and that CD's would never catch on. After all, you need a friggin' laser to read CD's! Never gonna happen.

I gotta agree with Rambo on many of his points..
Of course my opinion is probably biased since like him being able to talk on the phone use data at the same time a major..
What's the Rev. 2 you mentioned?

Driving with GPS going and talking on the phone...mp3's in-between calls.
Awesome screen.
Super fast compared to the Curve.
Works in Korea and other countries that are unusual - everything but CDMA.
I have the Bold and love the 3G.
The form factor feels much bigger than the curve though, even the curve with the Seidio giant battery!
Biggest problem with Bold is the rotten battery life. Expecting the 3500 battery tomorrow.

Revision 2 of the 8900 will be a 3G version for AT&T, Rogers, and other North American carriers using HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100. I expect Revision 3 to be a CDMA version. Alas, no AWS for T-Mobile users. At least there is no AWS version in planning currently. That could change if T-Mobile gets serious and rolls out AWS to cover a significant percentage of their users, but they've been mum on any kind of schedule.

update
well it seems I am going to move to the bold...losing a little money and gaining some weight but oh well..
I send long wordy emails for work and that is about 75% of the email I do, the little qwerty pad on the 8900 just doesn't do it for me, and I when I'm surfing that little screen is not nice.
oh well I guess I am holding out for whatever is going to replace the bold, in the meantime the 9000 will be good
Cheers

Truthfully, you couldn't go wrong with either. Personal preference, especially in the keyboard, is a critical area.

Cool thanks for the heads up.
Do you happen to know how that will compare to 4G (If we ever see that lol).
Or when the next revisions are expected to be rolled out?
