Default Newbie Questions - Sorry if repeated

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

Just got my wife a Blackberry Bold (9000).
She's on T-Mobile (UK) with a 1gb data plan and not BES.

She's a technophobe, and I've never had a BB, (been Symbian and then Windows mobile), so apologies if these are dumb questions...

Q1: I want to use 2 POP emails only, and so I've not registered to use BES. I've updated the OS via the Desktop Manager, and there's no Email setup in the Tools folder. How do I get this installed/set up 2 pop emails?

Q2: Can 2 email accounts be merged/downloaded into one account?

Q3: The Agenda view on Calender - this is quite wasteful of space - only 3-4 items in the screen view - can you change the calender font without affecting the whole machine - or is there an alternative calender app you'd recommend which will still default for syncing with Outlook?

Q4: The Installed browser is called T-Zones, (seems rubbish) and there's an alternative which seems to be a T-Mobile WAP Browser. Is Opera Mini the best browser for BB, or is there a RIM BB Browser?

More questions later I expect........

Cheers

A3: You can choose other views such as Day, Week, or Month. You can make these changes under the options menu when you are in the calendar. Month gives a nice overhead view of the dates. Dont know if this is what you are looking for.

A4: The Tmobile browser is only for web2go/tzones. For normal browsing I'd use the BB browser, Opera Mini, or even both. Some people really like Opera Mini, others don't. So best would be to give both a try and see which you like better.

1) You need a BlackBerry data plan. BIS, not BES. That will allow you to setup 10 POP3 email accounts on your device.

2) Yes, all email messages sent to the device will show in the Messages folder. They will also have an individual folder as well.

3) Follow the steps Trimix suggested.

4) When you have a BlackBerry data plan, the BlackBerry browser service book will be pushed to your device.

Thanks for that information.
I found the post with links for many ISP's: (Can't post URL's, just search "How to setup BIS Accounts")

My BB (Sorry, my wife's) seems to be already registered to another service provider...... Call to T-Mobile in the morning!

Cheers for the help so far...

Q5: How can you see all running Apps?
How can you close them all at once?
Can you close the app automatically when pressing the red Phone key?

That is more like questions 5-7

Hold the alt key and press the escape (back) key simultaneously to see all running apps.
The only way to close all the apps at once would be to remove the battery and put it back in.

The red end call key will just move the app to the background, still running. You want to press the menu key and select close/exit to properly close an application when not using it.

Humm, ALT-DEL did nothing (although Alt-Return did lock the handset!)
In Windows mobile you can choose if the red phone minimises or kills the app - any tweak available for the BB/RIM OS?

Also, Q6: I thought to get accented characters, you hold alt and press e (to get é or è). Nothing happens here either.

Q7 (Sorry): Is there a way of keeping the alt key active (without just pressing alt all the time) - in windows mobile, double alt is like ALT-Lock, allowing number entry in an Email/SMS.

Not Alt Del. Alt and escape (the key to the right of the trackball)

Hold the letter and roll the trackball to get the accented characters.

Press Alt and the left shift key to enable Num/Character lock. Alt and the right shift key for Caps lock. Press the shift key again to disable it.

We were all n00bs at some point. I learned a lot of what I know from this forum and BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ.

Humm, the 9000 section is very sparce, lots of broken or unwritten links, but I suppose many of the same tips are on other models - What would be the best FAQ model to choose?

Probably the 8800 or 8300. Most of the tips should work.
