Default Blackberry under water

Please Login to Remove!

Well, my 8300 went for a swim in the ocean. I got it out in about 5 minutes and home, taken apart, cleaned with fresh water, dried in the sun for 6 hours. put back together next day late and she won't turn on. I have been searching to see if someone has figured out a component on the circuit board that can be replaced (like a protection device) or someway of recoverring my data, wasnt back-up in a long while. Help wanted. Thanks in advance

It's probably too late but take a look here:
Got Your BlackBerry Wet? - BlackBerryFAQ

6 hours is not nearly enough time. take the battery out and sit the device in a bag of rice for 4 or 5 days. The rice will absorb the moisture and help dry the device out.

The problem with salt water is the minerals in the water. Even once the device has dried completely and nicely, the minerals remain not only to corrode any exposed electronics, but the minerals also act as a conduit to short-circuit the electronics.

So, the solution many of have used on a saltwater drenched device is to flush it well with isopropyl alcohol first. THEN follow the drying advice in the link above, for a minimum of five days drying with NO battery inserts to check it out.

Some have used a distilled water. I know that goes against anything our brain would allow, but...

I wish I had more to add, but the others before me covered this rather well... However, I feel the need to post in support of what JSanders stated that people seem to overlook time and time again.

You MUST keep the battery out and let it rest in rice for several days. I know we want immediate results - but if you're even hoping for the device to at least boot so you can retrieve valuable data - you MUST resist the urge to prematurely 'try' to see if the device will come back to life. Remember, electricity and electronics do not mix with water very well. Of course, this doesn't mean that it always will do the trick for you. But, I personally know of two people who followed this advice and were able to get their devices back up and running - one person, unfortunately, had to get a new device but they were able to remove all important data that wasn't backed up before their accident.
