Default 7100 Won't Shuttoff When Put In Holster

Please Login to Remove!

After a long day of using my 7100, I noticed tonight that I was getting the "out of holster" tones even when it was in the holster. After a bit of digging, I realized the screen isn't shutting off when I place it into the holster. The BlackBerry isn't reconizing the fact that I am putting it into the holster at all. Is there a setting I changed by accident? It doesn't feel like the magnets fell out. I poked around and didn't see anything obvious.

Take the battery out of the phone and put it back in. If that doesn't work then go to your refrigerator grab a magnet and wave it on the back side of the phone opposite of the keypad... If problem still persists call your service providers warranty number for an exchange set up.

I took a magnet off the fridge and it works fine....

What could have happened? Demagnatized?

Very interesting I suppose it is possible that the holsters magnets are not working properly, although this would be VERY surprising. Is this the standard canvas/vinyl holster that comes with the 7100? or is it an after market one?

If it is aftermarket I would try to find contact info for the manufacturer or take it back to the retailer you purchased it from.

If it is the OEM holster contact your service provider and or head to a corporate owned location store and see if they have any holsters to exchange it for or to test it with. i know that if you are with Cingular 99% of Cingular Corporate owned store managers have the 7100g so they should be able to test the holster and the handheld in a trial and error fashion. If they cannot exchange in store (some stores can't) then get the contact info for RIM and tell them you have a faulty holster and that you know this because your 7100 does respond to magnets.

Yes, the magnet probably slipped out of position in the holster. I occasionally have to move the magnet back up into position. I haven't found a durable holster yet for my 7100t.

The magnets can in fact move around in the holster. I actually had to flip one of mine completely over to get it to work. If you hold the outside of the holster up to the middle keyboard area on the front and back sides and it shuts down--then your magnet needs to be flipped.

a great leather holster is at e-access store. the vertical leather pouch. i think it's great you can remove or twist the swivel clip any which way and you can snap the bb safely shut.

I had the same problem with my 7100g. Flipped the magnets on the both sides of the holster and now my 7100g will lock no matter with way I place the 7100g in the holster.

All Cingular could offer was to replace my 7100g.

Thanks to everyone here!
