8700 and AOL IM?

Anyone know how to pull this off? there doesn't seem to be a pre-loaded chat program from cingular. Is there anywhere to purchase/download one, so that I'm able to use AIM instead of SMS messaging (IM Forwarding)?

There is a member here called Boy Genius that uses a piece of software called Yak-On which seems to work pretty well.

Any chat programs available for OTA downloads? I have a Mac, so no way to really install software the Micro$oft Windoze Way.

Another consideration is billing for data usage. I've read that some of the chat applications function in a way that generates extra charges for data usage. Can anyone comment on this?

When trying to use ramble. and trying to log-in it says:
Invalid Connection String: could not open tunnel - failed
any idea on what I should do to fix this?

apparently cingular does not give you access to the WIX network, or something like that, which allows TCP connections, which these programs appear to need, so if you call they will happily add it, but you will pay $20 a month extra for unlimited or per kb for pay as you go. I am looking for an alternative that I won't have to add the WIX package to use. Anyone know which ones work? |

This is simply not true. I have heard that you cant even add additional data plans to the BlackBerry plans and their billing system automatically deletes them. Some BlackBerrys from Cingular do not come set up for WAP access, so you have to request it to be added. Do not call customer service/611, call the BlackBerry department. If someone tells you that you need a data connect or MEdia plan, don't believe them, and most of all, don't let them add it to your account. Keep trying different departments and keep calling until you get someone who sets it up properly. |

I have been using Yak-On for about 3 weeks without any additional charges on Cingular. You do not need anything additional from cingular, just the unlimited BB plan.
I installed it on my 8700 last night via the zip file from a download to my PC. When I installed it on my 7290, I did that directly from their web page www.yak-on.com
It is the only IM program I have used and works great out of the box for AOL IM. I don't use any other IM at this time, so I can't say about the others. I also leave the TLS setting to the default of proxy even though the instructions for yak-on say to set it to handheld, that didn't work for me. |

it would not connect for me when I installed it, and I tried twice. However after installing ramble and adding in the TCP information, Ramble worked. I am just really worried about being charged per KB after editing the TCP information to allow it to access WAP. I have read people only seem to get charged after calling CS to get it added. Mine worked just by editing the TCP info, without calling CS. Can anyone confirm that by editing the TCP info to cingularwap I will not be charged per KB if I have the unlimited BB plan? |

i downloaded yak-on to my 8700 and i signed on but none of my buddys showed up and when i try to add new a buddy i was unable to chat with them, even though i was sure that they were signed on...as i was in the same room. whats the deal?

k, just talked to cingular CS and they said WAP access is included in unlimited blackberry plans, and adding the TCP information in to get my AIM client to sign on, will not incur extra data charges, but the question is, should I believe them?

I just reviewed my bill online and see charges($26.12 for 2.6M over 3 weeks) every since I started using Yak-On. I called and they removed the charges and said it had to do with a pay per use line in my plan that they also removed. Will see as time goes by.
Does it matter that I never changed my TLC from proxy to handheld?
