Well this post will be different from the norm lately since its not complaining or a concerned post asking for help.
Rather more a post on what I accidentally got working and unsure how its happening.
Some things before I begin.
1. I don't have a data plan of ANY sort!
2. I'm on a Telus Pay&Talk 9700 Locked.
3. No hacks used during the finding, tried previously but never worked.
OK my Telus Bold 9700 came LNIB ~ bought it on the grey market and was pleasantly pleased. I still am, more now after 2wks than I was when I bought it!
I realized that trying to use the unlimited web browsing option on Telus' Pay&Talk would not cut it for Browser because my SIM is only for Pay&Talk and thus doesn't register on RIM's NOC at all. Due to this, BBMaps was hidden as in the ribbon; Show All doesn't allow me to see it or launch it.
So I figured update the firmware to .351 and did so successfully. Still no go. BBMv5.0.0.56 would launch but of course never connected; oddly showed SMS' because my wife's contact was entered into BBM. I did then install the BBMapsLauncher free hack/plugin ribbon app. It would launch BBMaps but it would NOT even fetch ANY data, let alone even in Options>Advanced>GPS show the HH radio.
Thus I figured downgrade to .344 again and downgrade all the apps it prompted which included BBM, BBM, and GTalk, etc
Device rebooted, unlocked the screen and low & behold BBMaps was there outside of the folders. I launched it and BAM, POW! Data was fetched over WIFI! I can zoom, pan, more data is fetched. Wow ... how I miss BBMaps, and its working.
Not sure HOW or why its working, but I'm worried if I upgrade to .405 or whatever is now current on the boards if it'll work with Telus??
Either way this is COOL!
