Default Wi-Fi calling on 9650?

Please Login to Remove!

Was just looking at the new Bold 9650 page up on RIM's site. Noticed that when you look at the wi-fi features it says:

"Use a Wi-Fi® network to check email, shop online and even make calls. Seamlessly switch back and forth from your carrier network to wireless home networks and public hot spots to access all your BlackBerry services"

Is this similar to UMA service on T-Mobile? Anyone know about this?

*EDIT* I'm not sure if the info is specific to the 9650...It seems like the site is for the entire Bold line. Can anyone confirm if the 9650 will be able to make wi-fi calls without a cell network signal?

My guess is that it's a reference to the new version of BlackBerry MVS which should support calls over WiFi.
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Mobile Voice System

It is refering to Mobile Voice System as Penguin mentions. This PC World article is more explicit about the announcement.

RIM Launches Two New BlackBerrys and Voice-Over-Wi-Fi Service - PCWorld Business Center

"RIM also announced BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5, a voice-over-Wi-Fi service for business users."

Oh and note the difference between that and UMA is you can use the same number for the landline and mobile phone on MVS 5.

It sounds like the MVS is only for business users and will not be of much use for individuals.

Quote:
BlackBerry MVS 5 works with Cisco Unified Communications Manager to allow users to use a single work number between their landline desk phone and BlackBerry smartphone over a Wi-Fi connection. Some key features of BlackBerry MVS 5 include incoming call filtering, network preference settings (the option to switch between Wi-Fi or cellular for making calls), and Wi-Fi network access controls. BlackBerry MVS 5 will be available later this year from RIM's carrier partners. Pricing will vary depending on the retailer.

That's correct. It's an enterprise solution.
