Of course it will have an effect....you're updating it...
However as NJ said, please don't do it, you'er clearly not confident in what the process involves, and if your phone is working fine, there is no need to update.

I want to upgrade it bcos I don't like the version I am using. It is totally different from. My cousins own. The message does not have direct reply column. And I can't view picture slidely until I close the current one and open the other picture.
The version is 4.6.1.94(platform 4.2.0.69)

Going from OS 4.6 to OS 5.0 will make a HUGE difference in how the device does things. Does your cousin have the BB 8900 too? If your cousin has a different model your BB might never look/function just like that.

Use Desktop Manager to create a backup of your 8900 before updating. The update process usually includes a backup but I like to do a dedicated backup myself, just to make sure.
