Hey all. If this has been answered before, my bad. I did a search and didn't find anything. I have a 9800 and I'm pretty confused about 3rd party apps. I only get them from BB Apps world but I cannot figure out why some need the permissions they ask for or else they don't work. For example, why does one of the best rated flashlight apps need complete access to my User Data. Same with a screen capture program (Muncher). Why does it need acess to GPS and User Data? WTF? I have deleted these apps as they will not work unless I give them permission to have access to Email, Organizer Dara, Files, Security Data etc. Any insight would help. Thanks!!!

Many free apps want access to this data so they may offer advertising that suits you. It's how they finance the app development.

Agree with previous post - make sure you check the fine print in the "free" license agreement. I've seen free apps that report your GPS location info to a server, and generat location-specific advertisements. I've also seen free apps that farm your contact list for new victims.
