Several companies I know have bans on using mobile phones/PDA while driving, even with a handsfree headset.

I have one question about that. How are u going to call for help in an emergency if u have your phone in the trunk locked away? I personally cannot do this due to my disability. I must have my phone with me at all times when I am out of my house alone.

I was in an accident about 2 years ago in which I unintentionally made a left turn into the path of oncomming traffic and was stuck by a 2 ton truck.

Thankfully nobody was hurt and the damage to the vehicles were minimal.

However since then, I don't use any mobile device while driving. It's just too easy to make a mistake when your eyes are off the road and you're distracted.

Good policy. I have heard of companies banning cel phone usage while driving before- glad there is lots of initiative towards this.

GPS is built into the car and she talks to me. haha. not mobile. But you have a point. I forgot about that. I am guilty of using the keyboard or modifying destinations, looking up business, etc while driving. ugh. I should stop that too.

I use the 7100i with a bluetooth headset. I have an application called telenav that talks to me, she tells me when to turn and when im close. she also re-routes me if i get off course. The best feature is the ability to call in a destination and not type it in.

using the telenav and another program that allows voice control of the bb is the only way to go.

Read the story. Doesn't say anything about locking it in the trunk (other than part of a recommendation for addicts). Also it states "The ban, which excludes only hands-free phones in vehicles equipped for voice activation" - besides, you are in Texas!

Ever have someone grab the wheel while you type a response?

"The ban extends to the global firm's 70 offices and 4,000 employees in Canada and to 44,000 AMEC workers worldwide."

If you had to choose between the girlfriend or your blackberry, would you miss her?

The problem I have with the argument is that it is trying to create a generalized rule that is related to, but not actually the problem.

It is not the Blackberry's fault that an irresponsible driver finds it more important than the task of actually driving. If that logic were true, cell phones should be illegal, make up, books, newspaper, radio, mp3 players, and the heater controls should all be illegal.

The United States Department of Defense just enacted a law banning all cellular phone use while driving on DoD installations...including military bases. However, handsfree sets are allowed. If you are caught on the phone while driving without a handsfree, you are issued a ticket that you have to either take up with your commander or the city police department. Not the worst idea I have ever heard.

I just saw on CNN that it's going to be illegal to listen to your Ipod, cell phone, Treo or BlackBerry while WALKING in New York!! It seems that some dumb asses are getting hit by cars because they are listening to music or talking on the phone.
