Default H500 paired with 8700G. DAMN ECHO!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone, I've been looking forward to getting my BT headset. I finally picked up a Motorola H500 and this is ridiculous. Everyone I talk to gets the dreaded echo of themselves on their end of the phone. I tried turning down the volume on the BB, that gets rid of the echo, but then I can't hear ANYONE. When I try to turn the volume up on the headset, it turns it up on the BB as well, resulting in guess what, the echo again! I've read all too many people with this issue. It seems RIM would take care of this issue given how many corporate users would use a headset. Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue, or am I going to sit around and buy headset after headset until one finally works? Such a pain in the ass for a technology that has been out for some time now...... Anyone else have this issue? Is there a headset that has been proven thus far to work with a good volume WITHOUT this annoying echo? I don't like the ones with the huge boom mic's and what not, I prefer the size around the H500. HELP!

Hey Ian, the problem is not with the BB but with the headset. It echo's because the mic on the headset is very sensitive and it's actually picking up the callers voice on the earpiece, this is why it gets worse at higher volumes. The headsets with booms don't usually experience this because of the distance between the mic and the earpiece.
I don't care for the booms either, and I like the headset to be as small as I can get it. I am currently using the Jabra JX-10 and I have not had ANY problems with echo or anything else for that matter. It is very small and the earpiece goes into the ear which prevents the echo problem, it sort of "hides" the mic and the earpiece from each other. I realize that everyone has different preferences but this has worked very well with my 8700c.

Hope this helps!

Wirelessly posted (8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I am not saying that all small headsets will echo, in fact I'm sure there are some that don't. The JX-10 is the only one I have used that works well.

I didn't have any echo problems with my Plantronics M2500 that I had last year. It was the OTHER problems I had with it that made me trash it.

I've got both the HS850 and HS500.

I'm curious which one will work better with my 8700c.

Which I'm waiting til monday to get my shipment. Can't wait!

I have used both hs-850 and hs-820 with my 8700.I find that the transmit audio is WAY too hot(loud) and therefore looses any of its "noise cancelling" and echo cancelling, abilities(picks up the audio from the earpiece). I have a few friends with the 8700 and none of us are happy with the "tranmit audio", in fact, I have taken my voice plan off of my BB until a software upgrade is available...
Are we the only ones that can't talk on our 8700's with the window down or in a noisy room?

RIM are you listening?

My 8700c does not cancel out any background noise at all. I have done lots of testing in my car calling my office voicemail. I have tried the Plantronics 640, 645, Cardo Scala 500, and the Jabra JX 10. The Bluetooth device helps but no matter which device I use there is still background noise that varies based on the device. With no bluetooth device, just using the phone the background noice is the worst. Very disappointing. Now I know why so many people have a BB and a seperate phone for voice calling.

I would bet that is the reason for the "echo". Guess we could mute the mic while the other party is talking....Sorta
like push to talk
