Has anyone moved from an 8700 to 8100? Specifically migrating from full qwerty to suretype. Appreciate feedback as I'm thinking of a switch to a smaller form factor. Thanks.

I was using an 8700 until I just switching to an 8100. ** I am not a fan of Suretype ** but I sure do like this 8100. Now that I have a good case for it...

This is the longest time (6 days) that I've stayed with a Suretype device. I dumped the 7100 and the 7105 after 3 days....

I also bailed on the 7100 after a very short time. Migrated from the 8700 to the 8100 and had my doubts about SureType. After a week i'm finding I am typing faster and more accurately. I love the rollerball vs. the trackwheel. Overall, very pleased with the 8100

I went from a 7100t to an 8700g and back to the 7100 (and later today to the 8100). Both have their pros and cons and really its all just personal preference. I have no problems with the suretype and I really like the smaller form factor of the 7100/8100 for day to day use. I also really enjoyed using the 8700 for about a month, but just didn't like the size of the device.

Two pieces of advice that I can give is don't just give SureType a couple of minutes. Try to stick it out for a week or longer to really give it a good try and determine if you like it. And the second is if you read any posts about 7100's suretype, take it with a grain of salt. The logic in the 8100 suretype has been improved big time! See and Are use the same keys, and on the 7100 this was a HUGE pain, but with the 8100, very rarely does it come up with the wrong one for me.

I came from a 8700g to the Pearl, and I definitely love the 8100. It takes a couple of days (for me at least) to get used to the Suretype, I had never used it before. It's almost a faster typing experience with my 8100, the only downside is typing in a different language, I e-mail my parents in spanish and it's a nightmare. It takes 5 minutes to type a 2 sentence e-mail, but it's worth it for me.

Default SureType just takes getting used to

I agree with Zro... I came from the 8700 over to 8100 and have never used Suretype before. It took a little time to get used to where each letter was presented, but it didn't take long for me to get to a point where I can type at the same speed as a full size Qwerty...especially with 2 hands. With 1 hand I am a bit slower, but with enough practice... I'm sure I will be typing blind in no time.

I moved from the 8700 to the 8100. I also use a cell phone on the weekends (well until I got my Pearl that is now it's 1 device only) so I am used to suretype. It's somewhat similiar to how I text on my cellphone. I got used to mine the first day.

I bought a 7100 when it first came out, gave sure-type a few weeks but hated it. Switched backt o a QWERTYand have been using an 8700 series since day one of availability. I have owned almost every device that can do blackberry, blackberry built in or blackberry connect. The 8700 was a dream come true, best thing since slice bread. Now I have been using the 8100 for a few days. First it was by far the easiest to set up (I am on a BES and I usually have to have my account reset for it to work).

Pros:
Easy Set up
Small (really small)
Trackball (how did I live without this)
light as a feather
Suretype much improved (pulls words from all your emails automatically to new word list)
small really really small- I had thought it would be about the size of the 7130's but its like a nano (my wife called it the Nano blackberry)

Cons:
Battery life
Blue tooth unstable
keys too small
no QWERTY
Not as many bars as the 8700
smaller screen

Overall the size makes this a winner and sure-type seems to be working ok. Mostly its becasue I am hitting the wrong key or not spelling the word correctly that messes me up. I think I will stick with it. Did I tell you how small it was!

On a similar note- Anyone get a freedom mini btkbd to work with it? I am trying to no avail.
