and now it has a small dent/hole on the buttom of the lower right edge of the phone. even though it is company phone...it is kinda annoying looking at the dent. y does rim use cheap material for this phone?

Forget about the dent and be thankful RIM builds devices that still operate after DROPPING THEM ON THE GROUND!!!

I launched my 7520 out of the launcher (or belt clip) and proceeded to kick it down a flight of stairs the day I got it. Company BB too, it held up suprizingly well the battery cover is a little loose but that's about it.

I have come to learn that no matter the device, when they are dropped on a hard surface there is usually a tell tale mark left behind.

My Sprint Katana has been dropped and kicked across a parking lot into a puddle of motor oila and even though it looks like crap still works

I dropped my 7130c a couple of times though, and it never left a mark. So I am happy with that.

Liv is right, you would still be able to tell it was dropped even if the material was a little better, sorry dude, there ain't much worse than dropping your berry.

The only thing worse than dropping your Berry is when you drop it in a liquid of some sort.

Where's that blackberry abuse thread...the things these devices can survive is amazing. My BB still works after hitting the toilet as it flushed, but it's slowly developing all kinds of crazy quirks. I don't even flinch when I drop it on the ground anymore. LOL. It can handle that.

The 7130c case does seem to have somewhat of a weaker or softer casing than any other phone I've ever used (this is my first BB so I can't speak for any others other than the 7130c).

I've dropped mine a LOT. And the silver part of the phone has a lot of chips in it (Yes chips. Not scratches, but actual chunks of the phone denting in or breaking off). No other phone I've had has done that.

Oh well. It still works and thats all that matters to me. I don't care if its got some blemishes. In fact, I think it gives it 'character'.

I just dropped my 8700g on the sidewalk this past weekend, it's got a couple dings in it on the top corners now, but works fine. Not happy, I like my BB's to always look in new condition, this will be the first one not to.

same here and i like all my phones look in a new condition. well.. time to get a carrying case or put in your bag / pocket. or get a new housing to change it.

This brings up a good point. One of the more significant first impressions of my new 7130c is the slippery plastic. It's very well made and seems quite sturdy, just slippery.

I noticed there is a company makes some type of grip material that one can attach to the phone. However it seems like it would be hard to slip it in a case with that in place.

That said, I'm very satisified my new BB 7130c.

Anyone else have ideas? thoughts or comments?

my 7520 was practically bullet proof! tons of abuse and very little show of wear and tear all things considered. My new 8703 doesn't look as sturdy...meaning it is a little more shiny and the screen isn't recessed as much. Fortunately I haven't dropped mine yet...but I'm sure it will stand up.

My 8700 fell out of the holster and onto gravel right in time for me to stop on it. That was probably the worst spill. Luckily the screen side was up, and only got marred from the rocks stuck in my shoes sole, not the gravel on the ground. It has fallen in shallow puddles, asphalt, concrete, you name it. It looks about 10 years old (I bought it in August or July) but works like a champ. This is the most durable phone I have ever owned. BULLETPROOF - well, actually havent test that one....yet.

My 8700g has been bounced on the concrete a few times. The battery went flying. It now has a few dings at the corners but still works perfectly. It would be great if they made shock-proof waterproof model.

One of the first things I did was buy a Seidio jet black silicon skin for my 7130c once I was notified the phone had shipped. I had one for my 8700c (the frost white one). Fortunately, lgreenberg had done a comparison on the white 8700 one to the black one for the 7130c in his review of the 7130 skin and I was sold.
When my 7130c arrived on Friday, first went on a screen protector, then the Seidio skin. The only thing I don't love but knew would happen going in was the black skin attracts some dust and other things. Dog and cat hair jumps onto it like it's magnetic. I can cope, though.

I haven't dropped the 7130 yet but I am certain I will and I am not the slightest bit concerned at this point because of the skin. I have to take good care of this thing as it has to last at least a few months, hopefully up to six. My husband was none to pleased that I finally decided to replace the 8700, but after the last drop and the fact it almost didn't come back to life that time, I knew I had to. And the best way to keep the 7130 from flying out of my hands seems to be the skin.

I dropped my 7520 standing at street light. The battery cover went one way, the BB went another way and the battery flew into the streed and got ran over by a car. Put it all back together and works good as new, it just has some war marks on it.
