Default Basic I know

Please Login to Remove!

I know this is gunna be easy for someone but i've no idea how to do this. i've just got my first blackberry (8100) and i've been on here and downloaded the update i found to my laptop.
The question is now how do i update this onto my phone?
I've got the desktop software installed & i keep reading that you're supposed to delete the vendor or something in the program files. This is where i'm lost. If someone could give me a step by step talk through of how i do it i'd be gratefull.
Is it adviseable to remove your media card first and any contacts you've got or are they not affected?
Thanks alot.

Vendor will only be needed to delete when you want to unlock very theme...if you simply want to update your bb...you just need to install desktop software and run the application loader..and you will know how it goes!

That is incorrect. The Vendor.xml has to be deleted anytime you are loading an OS that is from any other carrier than your own.

After you download the new OS, find the vendor.xml file on your C: drive and delete it. Use the modified .ALX if you want to unlock all themes. Go to the Ringtones, Themes forum for this file. Follow directions there for replacing the .ALX file.

After you do these things, you can start the Desktop Manager and then plug in your device. It will recognize the new OS and ask if you want to upgrade. I would suggest however, doing a backup of your device before you do anything.

vendor.xml is located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Yes, delete it each time you load a new OS (unless you are loading your carrier's OS)

Blackberry.alx file to be replaced is located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\8100....(the OS version you are loading)
