Default Does blackberry support Japanese?

I'd like to be able to read and respond to emails in Japanese. Does anyone know if the Blackberry supports this? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I dont believe that the standard "out of the box" 7290 supports Japanese. I'm sure that there is 3rd party software somewhere however. I dont know about other bb's

NTT Docomo has developed a software which enable blackberry with OS4 to read/write e-mails in Japanese.
News release is :http://www.docomo-usa.com/news/
Details in Japanese :http://www.namikiteru.com/BlackBerry.aspx

They are offering trial use shortly (reading mails only), and will provide full reading/writing service in Aug 2005.
I am applying the trial. Impressions may follow.

Now I can view (can write in fall 2005) e-mails on my blackberry. Requirements are;
Latest version of Desktop software and Handset software (4.0.x),
Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.0 or later and
Namimail for Blackberry, provided by NTT DoCoMo USA for trial use.
Fonts displayed are a little bit small, but they are quire readable.
If you would like to know further please visit my blog of http://d.hatena.ne.jp/bbjapan/ Caution, it's written in Japanese.

Thanks for your post. Do you have any screen shots of the Japanese on your Blackberry? I hope this will be available in the USA. Ideally, if BB supported japanese character sets, we wouldn't need the Enterprise Server installed...

I have posted one photo on my blog http://d.hatena.ne.jp/bbjapan/20050425 . It was difficult to take a good pic as the fonts are so small. I'm requesting DoCoMo to improve it.
Also please note I'm in U.S. We can't use BlackBerry in Japan.

@GWBridge: Can you use a GSM/GPRS-Blackberry to receive/send emails while in Japan? I thought Japan does not have a GSM/GPRS network.

No I have not tried Blackberry in Japan. I am in the USA, but would like to have the capability to use Japanese characters.

You can use iCJKMail to view English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean emails on BlackBerry. It is 100% truly embedded software which does not require support from the OS or wireless carrier/operator/BES. You can setup multiple POP3 or IMAP account including SSL connection support. Multiple character sizes are supported to display messages. http://www.icjk.com.

The namimail software developed by DoCoMo USA can also work if you are using Web Client. I have heard it will not work on T-Mobile Network but you can get input and read function with namimail.
