Default Blackberry Enterprise Activation Issue

Please Login to Remove!

So - I'm trying to do Blackberry Enterprise Activation on my 8800. My contact at my exchange hosting company tells me that Cingular needs to associate my BES plan on my blackberry with the new PIN for the new device before it will work? Is this true? And obviously...their customer service support call center is closed, and the after hours customer support is incompetent. I started talking about the blackberry and the representative on the phone started freaking out because she had never heard of such a thing, and then provided me with a number which was supposedly where I needed to go but I got put right back to the main IVR.

So I have to wait till Monday. Bleh.

No, this is not true in my experience.

On our BES, you just have to put in your e-mail and password into the Enterprise Activation application and it works without any intervention from Cingular or our BES admins.

In fact, using the BB Desktop Switch Device Wizard, it didn't take any action on my part either. By the time the 8800 had rebooted at the end of the wizard, Enterprise Activation was almost complete!

Not sure if this is true but I have always done this online prior to swapping Blackberrys -- https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular

Well - All I did was take the SIM out of my 8700 and put it into my 8800 (it will be much easier to insert and remove out of the 8800 than in the 8700 - it was a pain in the ass to get it out of the 8700).

Anyway - That's what my representative at the company that hoses my BES is telling me, that when you first turn on the blackberry, if you don't get a BES Activation icon somewhere in your menues, then Cingular has not set something up correct. I do not know much about BES so I could not confirm or deny this.

There's should be nothing Cingular has to do.. AFAIK only t-mobile has BIS only plan.

So assuming your plan let you use BES..

For BES, all you need to switch device should be either using Enterprise Activation or use Desktop Manager.. As soon as you plug your device in, the desktop manager will ask you to switch or not.. Desktop manager doesn't even need anything done by the BES admin..

I do go under Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation

I key in my primary e-mail address and the password they set...and it does its lil thing and just sits there. I see the RIM messages pop up in my e-mail on Outlook but the device is not taking them.

I just called my hosting provider back and the guy told me they go back and forth and get a call like that everyday from either customers from Cingular or T-Mobile and that tomorrow we will all have a conference call to get it resolved. So I was like - Okay.

How are you connecting to your host? POP3, IMAP?

If you are connecting with Outlook via POP3, you will need to Enterprise Activate with Outlook closed. The RIM messages need to be processed by the BES Server to get Enterprise Activation going. POP3 will be removing these messages from you inbox on the server. This prevents the BES from starting your Enterprise Synchronization.

You should change your BIS PIN first...make sure your new PIN from your 8800 is reflected on Cingular's BIS side, then do the enterprise activation.
