BES Deletes of E-mail:

Question for you guys… I have noticed the following behavior and am unsure if it is expected under the following scenario:

1. BB is turned off.
2. Email is received on mail server
3. Mail is deleted from the server
4. BB is turned on

All deleted emails are still downloaded to the device.

Is this expected?

Thanks
Jon

Sometimes. It will immediately send the email to the device. But changes (marked read) and deletes are only reconciled every 20 mins. So it's possible the email might make it to the device, only to be deleted shortly thereafter.

this meaning that its deleted (moved/placed in Deleted Items) or permanently deleted (shift+del or emptying of Deleted Items)...?

if the latter, then yes, the behavior is expected. as bfrye mentioned, polling for message status reconciliation (deleted, read/unread, etc) is only done every 20 minutes. this polling interval could fall anywhere between instant to the full 20 minutes. so if the emails were deleted from the server before the polling interval for that user had the chance to scan the items in the deleted folder, then don't expect those changes to replicate over to the handheld. the chances of the change in state replicating to the handheld is slim to none (too little of a percentage to even say that the behavior isn't completely expected).

I've had a similar thing happen, (BES 4.0, Groupwise) Using wireless sync only, no desktop manager syncing

User had BB off for couple days. Look in BES and pending messages for that user was a couple hundred. Now user had dealt with (read deleted) most of these and so didn't want them all coming down and having to delete them again on the BB so I purged those on the server.

We also have occur that when an email is deleted on the desktop client, it doesn't delete on the BB. This happens on 3 of the 4 users we have setup. The last user it works fine for. All were setup the same and no policies have been set or anything (just default) and checked out to see all user settings the same etc but no joy.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers
Colin
