Default IMAP Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am a Treo 650/Chatteremail convertee with a brand spankin' new Cingular 8800 running BIS. I have set up an email account to download emails from my company's IMAP server. I have also set up an account for my Gmail.

1. Receiving "push" email from the IMAP server is happening, but varies anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes. My boss, who has a BB8100 on TMobile using BIS, is consistently getting emails from the same server much quicker than me. Why would it take up to 30 minutes? Why does the delay vary? And why is my boss's TM BIS much faster? Coverage is very good in all situations.

2. While I am OK (albeit slow) downloading emails from BIS, and reconciling for reading/deleting, when I send an email from my 8800 it does not show up in my Send folder on the IMAP server (but emails are being received fine by recipients). My understanding is that this is suppsoed ot happen under BIS2.

Tks for your help. This is a truly impressive website.

I deal with this by setting up an auto-bcc address in BIS-- [email address]. Then, I have my IMAP mail program check that address, and move any emails it finds into it into the sent folder on the IMAP server.

Is that a fictitious address, or a real one. I'm assuming a fictitious, so won't I get kick back emails all day long?

Should be 1 to 15 minutes. If over 15 minutes, give call to Cingular.

Must be not more than 15 minutes.

BIS servers poll your IMAP server every 15 minutes. If your boss receives emails 1 minute before the poll and you- 1 minute after, he will be getting his emails in 1 minute and you- in 14.

Also, if your inbox has very many emails, trimming it could help. Empty it and see if it gives better results for email delivery.

My understanding it only works for Yahoo accounts, not for IMAP accounts in general.

Not true. On my IMAP server any email I send from my BB gets saved in the "Sent" folder on the server. Be sure you select IMAP in the BIS setup.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

- I will talk to Cingular about emails taking in excess of 15 minutes.

- Confirmed that my work email account is set up in BIS for IMAP. Could this be a Cingular problem, or perhaps something on the IMAP server itself, that would be preventing this from happening?

Does anyone else experience this problem with sent emails not being saved in the Sent folder on the IMAP server?

Many thanks SRM
