Default 8800 screen quality???

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone else noticed a reduced quality in the 8800 vs the 8100?? The contrast is lower and the fonts seem fuzzy. Please respond!

Thanks!

I have not noticed that; got my 8800 yesterday and had the 8100 since it came out. I am pleased with the 8800.

Side-by-side I don't see any meaningful difference.

You removed the plastic shipping wrapping right?

I have to say the screen quality on the 8800 is among the best if not the best of any recent devices I've seen. I don't have a Pearl anymore but from memory it doesn't seem worse, maybe a bit better.

Default Screen preotector!! lol Yes I removed the plastic.....

I wish it were that easy. I definately notice fuzzy edges to the font even at bbmilbank tall bold with no interlacing. My pearl is razor sharp. The 8800 is fuzzy on all fonts. I am going to go back to the Cingular store and switch it out. I got it the day they came out because, well....., because I had to have it

It's "font smoothing" in Screen/Keyboard. It used to be called "antialiasing" in older BB OS's.

I've noticed that the screen on the 8700 is much more vibrant than the screen on the 8800. I find the colors to look a but washed or dull compared to the 8700, but overall I have been very pleased with my 8800.

Depending upon the light that I view my 8800 in, the right side of my screen often has a reddish hue.

If I view it in the dark, I don't see the hue and the colors look fine.

I am guessing it is something to do with the plastic case over the screen which probably is tinted to help with sun viewing?

There's no interlace option that I know of. Did you mean antialiasing? It's named Font Smoothing under Options->Screen/Keyboard on the 8800. If you have it turned on fonts could be interpreted as fuzzy at the edges. If it's not on it sounds like a defective display to me. My 8800's display is as good as, if not better, than my 8700's.

Since at least the 8700... Antialiasing is antialiasing and can be implemented on any fixed pixel display. What the display is attached to doesn't matter as long as the system offers the feature.

This may be a stupid question, but does turning font smoothing "on" have any effect on the battery life? Does it require more "juice" to enhance the display in this way? I just turned it on yesterday and today my battery seemed to take a hit. Maybe it was just a coincidence??

I don't think it'll take much of a hit...

but on a personal level, why do people turn on "font smoothing"...i tried it for a day and to be honest *shrugs*...you guys see something positive out of it.

The images - especially text - seem crisper and brighter to me. But I have a very discerning eye due to some eye surgery. A little less fuzzy around the edges, as someone described above, i think. I can see where people might not notice much of a difference.

My 8800 screen is not quite as nice as the 8300 or 8700 to me. I can really notice a difference in bright lighting!

I, too, think it has something to do with the "darker" plastic screen cover.

I am just waiting on the 8820 and will be happy!
