Newby here.
I use a Mac OSX laptop. I'd like to install some third party Italian phrase software (any recommendations?). How do I get onto my Pearl? Download then USB? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forums, ebonyberry. Are you talking about a translation software? I don't know of a specific one you are asking for, but third party app Beyond411 has a plugin for Eng->Italian and Italian->Eng translation you might try.
