Many of you may not be aware, but you can upgrade, downgrade or change your existing carrier plan to more favorable terms. The only downside is that when changing plans you have to renew or extend your contract to a new term. But if you are happy with your carrier and are not worried about paying a cancellation fee for early termination, then extending the contract is no big deal, especially if your change will result in money savings.

I have T-Mobile and they allow one to upgrade, downgrade, or change plans, subject to the above restrictions.

Anyway, I always keep an eye out for special promotions my carrier is running to see if I should change plans. Well on TV they just announced a special promotion which is the lowest priced plan for the minutes that I know of. It's 1000 minutes, with unlimited nights and weekends for $39.99.

Prior to this promo I think they had 1000 Anytime Minutes, but this did NOT include the unlimited nights and weekends. I believe they had only 500 minutes for $39.99 that included nights and weekends free.

I was on the 1000 minutes for $39.99 plan a few years ago but erroneously changed it, so I lost the ability to go back to it. It's been almost two years since they ran this promo. To my knowledge this is the best price out there. I believe that other carriers only give 500 to 600 minutes for $39.99

So I dialed 611 on my Pearl and switched the two lines we have back to individual service, each at the $39.99 plan. I confirmed with the CSR that this promo meant I would get nights and weekends free.

Prior to this we had the Family Plan at 2000 shared minutes for $100. That plus the unlimited data plan, and taxes resulted in a $168 monthly bill.

Under this new promo plan we will save about $23 monthly, or $276 yearly.

Note: When I talked to the CSR before going to the individual plan, he said there was a secret promotion, 2600 family shared minutes for $100. We do not need that many minutes so I did not sign up for that. But mention to the CSR you heard about that and snap it up if that interests you.

I do not know how long these promotions will run, but you better move fast on it. THIS IS FOR U.S. T-MOBILE ONLY!

If i am right, the only thing about that promotion is that it takes away ur top 5 favorites. I have the Supra .

That's awsome. Right now I am on the my faves 300. I really only call 3 or 4 people. I use the 300 for everyone else. But that's a good deal. I wonder if I can get 1600 on a single line. Lol.

I don't know anything about MyFaves. We did not have that. Isn't that a separate add on?

As far as the data plan, which is a separate add on, that $20 was tacked on to our $39.99 charge. In fact I confirmed with the CSR that we were not losing the $20 BlackBerry plans.

Update: Looks like on the promo it says that MyFaves is not applicable. So my post applies only to the individual plans.

I might actually switch to that plan. At the beginning of June I switched to another promotion, 1500 anytime minutes for $39.99. This does not include free nights and weekends. I only use probably, at most, 800 minutes anyway a month. I just wanted to get as many minutes as possible. But I do enjoy the rates that T-Mobile has.

That Anytime Minutes [or is it "Get More"] is what I switched to about three years ago, erroneously. I thought it included nights and weekends. It did not. When I said I wanted to go back to the 1000 minutes for $39.99 they said "Sorry, promo is over."

That is why I was keeping an eye out for it. The names are so confusing. I guess they call the plan I was looking for the "Get More Plus" plan.

Like you, I was using close to the 1000 minutes, but not the 1500. Sadly, a few months I went over 1500 and noticed the $150 extra charge on the monthly bill. That is how I learned that "Anytime" is referring to the minutes counting anytime, including nights and weekends.

So I went to the 2000 shared minutes $100 family plan and had to pay attention to every damn T-Mo commercial for two years.

T-Mo does say, and I agree, that one has to see how they use their minutes over a couple months.

Matter of fact when I was doing all the switching, T-Mo was able to look at their screen and tell me my monthly minutes average, highest months, etc. They then made recommendations on the best plan for me.

Only rarely do I have a month where I am close to 1000 minutes at the end of the billing cycle, to where I have to watch my daytime use. So for me, the 1000 minute plan for $39.99 is perfect.

Yes, a T-Mobile rep made a similar suggestion to me. I was able to know my average and thus allowed me to pick a better plan. It ended up saving me some money each month. I hope that 1000 anytime/free nights and weekends promo is still there after my billing cycle ends (6/24/2007).

I have the old Tmobile i-Paq plan from 4 years ago. It gives me 1000 anytime minutes and unlimited txt and internet and Hotspot for $89. I switched that over to my BB last week. Should I be getting a better rate??

I would love to switch to the 1000 anytime unlimited night/weekend minutes but I have the 600 my faves and I use about 2000 minutes to my faves and like almost 550 anytime minutes every month. So I'm on the cheaper plan for me! YEAH

Also, I can't complain about my service expect in my girls house in the bedroom and at school. Other then that I have better service with T-Mobile then I did with Sprint.

If you call and change your plan now to the new one that they have out when your billing cycle changes you will be locked into the deal. You dont have to wait to the end of your billing cycle to get locked into the deal.

SF said he split the family plan into 2 individual plans for $40 each, so each line gets 1000 minutes instead of 2000 shared minutes. If you have a family plan you have to see whether one member uses over 1000 minutes. If so don't change. One plan Tmob has for $60 includes 1000 minutes total (no free weekends/nights), unlim. data and unlim text. This is a good deal for heavy txt users because Tmob charges a minumum of $5/mo for 400 txts, I think $10 for 1000, and $15 for unltd. Roughly equal My Faves plans adds $10/month. Really depends on who you call and when you call, like SF said, nobody has a plan that generous for $40 these days. I bet it won't last long. They may be trying to extend some contracts before the iPhone comes out!
