Default verizon 8830 or ATT curve?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm currently with Verizon, however my contract is up. I'm thinking about the bb 8830. Or should i switch to the bb curve with ATT? The curve is smaller, lighter weight, same screen, EDGE, and has a camera. The 8830 is bigger, feels better build, heavy, and broadband.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

You need to decide what carrier you want before you can decide on the phone. I was with Verizon and I switched because AT&T has comparable coverage where I live. I wanted the Curve and it has worked out very nicely. It is a great phone, I don't think you would be disappointed if you made the switch...just make sure the coverage is right for you.

How is EDGE? My bb 8830 seems to have good speed with their high speed broadband. Is ATT edge fast enough? Thanks,

I had just made the same decision..
I narrowed my choice down to:
- AT&T 8300/8800
- VZW 8830
- Sprint 8830

In the end I choose the AT&T 8300.
+The speed is certainly fast enough for e-mail (my biggest application)
+ AT&T coverage in my area is good -- VZW is a little better -- I am not sure about Sprint
+ I like the smaller 8300 - I keep my phone in my shirt pocket
+ I do not need GPS. I have it in my car and in the AT&T phone I got my wife.
+ The 8300 has built is spell checking (witch eye kneed)
+ I liked the AT&T Firefly for my young kids (only AT&T has this)
+ I liked the AT&T family plan
+ I will not use VZW because they cripple features native to the phone so that they can charge a monthly fee (even though I did not need the feature).

The downside to this: both VZW and Sprint offer G3. That would be nice for browsing.

Definitely consider carrier coverage first and then compare features of the devices to see which fits your needs/wants best (this is the very subjective part). Blackberry.com allows you to compare features and specs of models side-by-side.

Like birddog, I wouldn't even consider VZW because of their device crippling. Being a gadget geek, CDMA is a con for me as well since I like to switch devices as I please. You probably have your own additional criteria such as these to consider. Browsing speed seems to be important to you which would seem to put VZW or Sprint more in favor for you...

My 8830 has built-in spell check. Love it. But RIM doesn't have a very big vocabulary.

i have seen the curve for at&t and it is beautiful. i just dont like their service plans. what happened to unlimited messaging. 50 bucks for BB service 1500 messages and unlimited M2M messaging to me is a little ridiculous. but hey thats just me

honestly, being both a verizon and t-mobile customer... EDGE doesn't even compare to EVDO... EVDO is superior over EDGE.

Yes, that is true. The question is, how much impact does it have.
For e-mail, I don't even notice. Once I hit send, I don't really care if it takes one second or 5 to send the e-mail. (Large e-mail may take a little more time to read when you ask for more).

If you need to use web browsers on your BB a lot, yes, you will want EVDO.

I wanted EVDO when I got my 8300, but for me, there were other considerations that were more compelling that caused me to choose the 8300 w/ EDGE.

I agree with the others when they say to make sure that the coverage is there. Even if you have a new, shiny BlackBerry it won't do any good if you can't get a signal. You may want to test drive the AT&T network to see how you like the call quality and EDGE speeds. If it is not satisfactory then you can renew with Verizon and get the 8830.
