I tried that but the only options it gives me is english....how do i get the french version

gill, if the additional languages are NOT on your BB, you can load them from your Desktop Manager > Application Loader IF you have your current handheld Operating System installed on your PC.

If you don't have it on your PC, you need to get it, download and install to your PC. Then go to Application Loader in Desktop Manager and you can add those languages there.

ok so i hooked it up to the desktop manager and i went to application loader but the only options it gave me was yahoo something and google maps and 2 other options which werent it. I am not good with these sort of things. I went to blackberry.com and its only offers me to download the desktop manager again is that what i should do but the multilanguage one or am i way off here....

Ok, unless you want to upgrade the OS on your BlackBerry, you need to make sure you download and get on your PC the very exact same version of the handheld OS which you have now. Find that on your BB at Options > About.
Post it here and I or another can help look for it. You may want to upgrade, nevertheless.

Getting the latest version of Desktop Manager is not a bad idea, either, you can get the Version 4.2, Service Pack 1 (Service Pack 2 is there, but it is primarily a Media software update that you don't really need for the 8700).

You will want to download this to your PC, from this link. First, choose the 8700c software in the drop down box.

Then, there are two choices, download the second choice, that has the specs as stated below.

When you download it to your PC, find the downloaded file, click to install. Let it install.

With your BB connected to the PC via USB, Open Desktop Manager, Open Application Loader. If you downloaded the exact same OS, you should NOT be presented with an option to UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE. Look for the applications installed on your device, and under Languages, the FRENCH should be UNCHECKED. Check it, and it should install to the BB.

This is all in "ideal" terms. I hope it works smoothly for you. It should.
