Unhappy Peeling Rubber???

Please Login to Remove!

Chugging along for two plus months on my 8300 and I've really enjoyed it. However, does anyone have any issues with the Rubberized sides and top peeling? Mine is peeling on the top of the device. Don't understand why either, as I take great care of my curve and use the OEM leather case for it as well...

I would say it s defective. I have been very rough on mine (as seen by its chips and gouges) and usualy keep it naked in my pocket and I have had no peeling.

Exchange it through at&t.

I'm having the same problem with mine up by the mute/standby button. No big deal, but still annoying.

How do you just exchange it through AT&T? Will they really take it back and give you a new one?

Mine started peeling away on the top corners, so I just helped it peel the rest of the way so it would look consistent. No more rubber on the top, but it doesn't bother me. I keep it in a skin most of the time anyway. It did take a while to peel the rest of it off.

It would probably be easier to get it replaced if there was another issue that justified replacement and the peeling was just cosmetic. Otherwise you will need to convince them the peeling arises from a defect and not abuse.

As with anything in life it may come down to how persuasive you can be.

1 800 801 1101 is the AT&T warrenty replacement program phone number.

I agree that it's really a cosmetic issue, but at the same time a defect. I'm sure when RIM engineered the 8300 and decided to "rubberize" the sides, their plan wasn't for the rubber to start peeling off after 60 days of normal use. I'm going to bring it back to AT&T and keep you all posted as to the outcome.

I noticed the the rubber around my mute button is peeling away as I constantly go to standby mode and wake up my phone. Let us know if you're successful in exchanging it so we can do the same.

I think this is somewhat common for this type of material. I remember the Palm Z-72, or something like that, had the same issue - blue ruberized flakes all over the place!

Well after a call to AT&T (they called it a cosmetic issue and not covered). Then to RIM who agreed the rubber should NOT be peeling... The guy at RIM (Ben) actually got AT&T on the phone in my behalf and was able to assist me in getting a "one time" exception return. It took a lot of hold time, but I should be getting a replacment device sent within the next few days...

You could have just said my phone keeps doing random resets and what not! They would have sent you out a new one right away. Sometimes a little nose growing will help speed the process up. Either way, you got the job done. Good luck with the new unit.
