Latest OS: 8707 4.2.2.342 / 4.2.2.186 (VodafoneUK) (Chinese)

Software For BlackBerry 8707v (TM) BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.342 (Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.2.342
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.2.2.186
  • Software Platform: 3.4.0.24
  • File name: 8707vCJK_PBr4.2.2_rel342_PL3.4.0.24_A4.2.2.186_VOD AFONE_(UK).exe
  • File size: 70.1MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

To download the update CLICK HERE

This OS will work on any 8707
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Anyone know if this version has Korean language input? All previous versions had Korean font support for viewing only, unlike Chinese and Japanese which have input capabilities.

I've read that the 4.5 beta version includes Korean language input, but would greatly appreciate it if someone could let me know if this version has Korean input as well. Thanks!

Sorry, did anyone know the different on 8707V & 8707G? i'm using 8707G in HK, can I upgrade this firmware?

BBbuddy 04-22-2008 02:27 PM

@ tclohk:
Yes, you can. Just follow the steps with the vendor.xml-file.

@ shimmers:
I'm not quiet sure, but there stands it has character- and fontsupport for Korean and languagesupport for Chinese. Perhaps that helps you.

Another thing I have noticed... this ROM slowes my 8707 down. WHY? Anybody else has this experience?

Hey, thanks for the feedback. If it has Font Support for Korean only then no input yet. Guess I need to wait for OS4.5.

Also, I noticed that certain OS versions slowed my 8707 down a lot as well. The only version I found that did not slow things down was the NTT Docomo version. Their version is 4.2.2.122 (nearly the same as VodafoneUK version) and has all the new features you may be looking for. The NTT version is by far the most stable 8707 OS I've seen so far.

The Chinese stuff works - but the japanese input method is not reliable (in our experience) on this OS across different countries.

We loaded this in UK and it worked fine on UK Vodafone Mobiles and words entered in English e.g. Watachi or kanji translated into Japanese when you pressed space after the word. I tried the same version in Germany on a Vodafone DE 8707v and I also tried again with an Australian derivation of the OS and while it loaded successfully, Japanese Input refused to work. Chinese input did work however on the one trial where I tried it out.

UPDATE After testing:

The Chinese stuff works fine but the Romaji Japanese input method on this OS does not in Germany on an 8707v that previousy had Namimail. We got it to work in UK on a brand new device with Vodafone UK.

1) Is there anything in the alx files or Device.xml file that might prohibit use in another Vodafone National Sales Area? Can I delete these references to get it to work safely. For instance I noticed Japanese language settings were not automatically refered to in Device.xml when I loaded. But even when I added them manually it did not work. I have Desktop Manager 4.3 for all this- I previously tried on 4.2.2 but that did not work either.

2) I previously had Namimail installed on the device I am now testing for Japanese input. Is it possible my previous software could set something on my device that would prohibit use of any alternate way of doing Japanese input. The device we loaded successfully in the UK had not previously had Namimail loaded.

Has anyone managed to see Chinese characters in browser window with this version?

It's a pity I can't. This version has installed very smoothly on my 8707g from O2. As related to the Chinese, everything is fine with the e-mails, menus and input - but still bad encoding in the browser.

Does anyone know how is it possible to fox this?

Chinese works fine on my browser on my 8707v here in Europe e.g.

BBC 中文网 | 中文网主页

Maybe you need to set all the browser preferences to on e.g. javascript, html tables, images etc

No, the 8707 will never ever get 4.5. This is due to technical limitations of the hardware used in the 8707.

itsrealcolor... welcome to the forums.

Yes, it is common that many far east IPs are blocked by RIM. I don't what we can do to help you, though.

tclohk 07-09-2008 08:52 PM

JSanders 07-09-2008 09:07 PM
